And…. they’re off!

Scott last incumbent statewide-officer to announce re-election bid

Former Sen. Dick Mazza, a Democrat, with his Republican mentee, Gov. Phil Scott

By Guy Page

Gov. Phil Scott became the last statewide incumbent to make it official: he’s running for re-election.

Posing in a photo with longtime mentor, Democrat, former state senator, and fellow fast car enthusiast Dick Mazza, Scott announced on X that he’s running again because “Vermont’s Legislature is so far out of balance.”

“After reflecting on all the work still left to do, I’ve come to realize I cannot step away at a time when Vermont’s Legislature is so far out of balance, so I’ve decided to run for reelection to keep working for you,” Scott said.

He then urged voters to elect legislators who will reflect his fiscally-conservative position.

“But in order to be successful, I need your help. It’s not enough to just support me, because I can’t do it alone in the State House. I need you to elect more legislators who will also put politics aside and work with me, to deliver the best results for you,” he said.

“Although our country feels more divided than ever, I truly believe most of us are somewhere in the political middle. Some a little left of center, some a little right of center, and a whole lot in between. For the most part, I believe Vermonters want balanced debate, balanced policy and balanced politics. They want reasonable, pragmatic solutions that make Vermont more affordable, revitalize our neighborhoods, and improve public safety,” Scott said.

Three Democrats have expressed interest in seeking the Democratic nomination: Former Gov. Howard Dean, former Burlington mayor Miro Weinberger, and former Middlebury school DEI director Esther Charlestin. Only Charlestin has explictly announced she’s running. One lawmaker considered a candidate for governor, Rep. Caleb Elder of Starksboro, is instead seeking an Addison County senate seat against both incumbents, Chris Bray and Ruth Dwyer.

Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, AG Charity Clark, Treasurer Mike Pieciak, Auditor Doug Hoffer, and Secretary of State Sarah Copeland-Hanzas all have announced they are seeking re-election.

    • Stop trotting out people like Greg Thayer and John Klar and get some normal businessmen running and he will. Scott’s a winner.

    • Scott, “Although our country feels more divided than ever, I truly believe most of us are somewhere in the political middle. Some a little left of center, some a little right of center, and a whole lot in between.”

Not sure what to make of that, either there is complete ignorance to the issues at hand and who is pulling the strings, or he’s being very, very deceptive.

Our state and country are run by NGO’s, the administrative state, lobbyists, PAC’s, non-profits….

Hell, even our own congresswoman was bought and paid for the tune of $1,000,000 of illegal money from FTX people….

This awe shucks in light of severe abuse of power and misuse of money and going against the constitutional rights of Americans…..

He’s pimpin’ for the New World Order, he’s not stupid, he knows who his master is.

We’ll move some deck chairs around the deck of the Titanic and call it a victory!

    • Thanks, Chris, for your backhanded endorsement of the Thayer and Klar campaigns.

    • “Thanks, Chris, for your backhanded endorsement of the Thayer and Klar campaigns.”

No problem Tyler, maybe you can get those two put on milk cartons so someone is aware they are running

  1. Of course he’s running again, he’s not done turning VT into CA for Biden & Co. I’m just not sure what they are going to do once they tax the middle class out of here. Who will be left to pay for all of their handouts?

    • Seems you failed to read his comments. It’s clearly not Scott who is turning Vt into California, it’s the left wingnuts in the legislature. Don’t you read the VDC? Or can’t you understand?

  2. hey hey pfizer phil, how many vermonters did you kill/// some of us remember the lock down and your demand that 80 percent of the vermont population take the kill shot before you would open up the economy///

  3. thirty vermont senators/// two down, twenty eight more to go///

  4. Hmm he says he wants help. Funny who does he want help from, the Republicans he continues to ignore and stab in the back or democrats like Chris. Asking for a friend.

  5. He is the most popular Governor in the nation afterall. No concrete receipts on that – just a bought and paid for poll that most know is an outright lie. I polled a chat room of over 100 people and no one knew who he was…even a lady from New Hampshire.

Well scripted, AI generated speeches, empty platitudes and vicious gaslighting aside, what does it matter really in the grand scheme of things? The Theater of the Absurd continues to play out as designed. If there happens to be a selection event, it will be a colossal head fake as prior ones will prove out to be. Ballots and bullets is likely what this summer campaign season will bring about just like 2020.

    • He is the most popular governor in the state that has the most censored press, in a state that has the largest cancel culture in the nations, in a state that has more government employees than any other industry, in a state with runaway monetary issues, in a state that is closest to complete domination by NGO’s, PAC’s, non-profits, that disrespects the constitution, in a state the worships government rather than God, that is a complete tool for the New World Order…..

Yeah….that state? Our state is like a really hot supermodel that’s a hot mess. Yeah, we’re attractive as all hell, but not so easy to live with.

And he really is number one in that environment, so congratulations on that.

We’ll have complete domination over food production, energy use, housing restrictions, etc….because we are following the Agenda, it’s all written out for you to see too. Agenda 2030, whereby if we give all our money, all our sovereignty over to the world leaders they will save us from climate change. The same climate change they have been talking about that was going to end the world since 1973….every 5-8 years the world is going to end, usually around election time.

    • Hey Melissa,

Don’t forget, if you vote the school budget down for a third time this is also the governor that says he’ll take away your right to vote for the school budget.

Awe shucks, we’re all leaning just a little to the right, or a little to the left…..

And if you don’t’ agree with him, he’ll just take away your privilege to vote… what’s next? Fix your farm equipment, Grow your own food? Build your own house? Educate your own children? etc, etc….keep your Gym open during flu season?

The VTGOP is VERY, VERY ok with his idea of taking away all the voting rights of the Vermont citizenry if they don’t agree with the school budget. They love this idea by their actions.

We are corrupt to the core.

    • I polled a chat room of over 100 people and no one knew who he was…even a lady from New Hampshire.

      No, no you didn’t

  6. THANK YOU Gov. Scott. As much as you are ridiculed as being a RINO, any democrat or progressive alternative would be the final nail in Vermont’s coffin and result in it’s “green burial”. Most of us common-sense conservatives who dont exist in a political fantasy world appreciate you and know you probably have things you would rather be doing than having to play defense against the democrats and progressives who would utterly destroy Vermont through marxism. YOU ARE APPRECIATED.
