Addison County Republicans twice this year have expressed their support and appreciation for one of their own: former Gov. Jim Douglas.
Douglas moved to Vermont from Massachusetts as student at Middlebury College, becoming involved in campus politics and the college radio station. A long and successful career in electoral politics resulted in him serving terms as governor. He was also a longtime Town Meeting moderator.
This summer, the Addison County Republican Committee voted to endorse Douglas’ effort to represent the Mead family legal case against Middlebury College for its decision to remove the name of the donor’s family from Mead Memorial Chapel.
And this fall, the Addison County Republican Committee presented a restaurant gift card to Douglas in appreciation of his exemplary dedication to serving Vermonters over the past five decades.
Wilson to run for second term – In other GOP news, Rep. Charles Wilson of Lyndon announced he will seek a second term for the Caledonia-3 seat in the Vermont Legislature. The two-seat district covers Lyndon, Sheffield, Newark, Sutton and Wheelock. Rep. Dennis LaBounty (D) is the other representative for that district.
Wilson – well known to Vermont Daily Chronicle readers for his frequent commentaries – said he plans to support legislation to repeal the Affordable Heat Act and the tax on social security for seniors. “Plus I will support lowering taxes, less regulation on farmers and small businesses, Second Amendment rights, Right to life And Constitutional Rights,” he said.
