Chronicle Conversations today Thursday, November 5 features an interview with a Trump ‘TDS’ expert psychologist on whether Americans move forward post-election — or carry their anger toward Trump into the next political fight – and maybe even over Thanksgiving dinner.
Callers are welcome at 888-414-0303.
Suz Seymour, the independent candidate for Congress, is the show’s 12:20 PM interview. Then at 12:33 PM, Page will interview Dr. Carole Lieberman, M.D., M.P.H., a board-certified psychiatrist, media commentator, and author who has spent decades analyzing mental health, criminal behavior, and the psychological impact of violence and terrorism. Her latest book is Lions and Tigers and Terrorists, Oh My! How to Protect Your Child in a Time of Terror.
As Americans process the midterm results, Lieberman will discuss whether Trump Derangement Syndrome will intensify—and why winning or losing an election may do little to end an obsession with the president.
Her commissioned TechnoMetrica/TIPP survey of 1,250 registered voters, conducted October 16–19, found that 38% reported personally experiencing what the survey described as TDS, while 70% said they had observed stress, anger, or agitation in others in response to Trump-related appearances or events. These are respondents’ reported experiences, not clinical diagnoses.
Lieberman argues that the post-election conversation should examine whether anti-Trump anger is becoming a lasting fixation that affects relationships, behavior, and everyday life. She can explain her proposed diagnostic criteria, why she is seeking formal recognition for TDS, and where she draws the line between political disagreement and emotional impairment.
Lieberman may touch on these topics:
- Does TDS survive the Blue election victory? Why the favorable result may fail to satisfy people whose anger remains focused on Trump.
- When defeat makes Trump the target: How disappointment can feed blame, fixation, and hostility toward his supporters.
- Disagreement or dysfunction? The distinction she draws between opposing Trump’s policies and allowing anger toward him to disrupt daily life.
- The media’s role after the vote: Whether coverage and social media reinforce the emotional reactions her survey examined.
- TDS at the Thanksgiving table: How political fixation can damage family relationships—and what people can do before arguments become estrangement.
- Her push for psychiatric recognition: Why she wants TDS considered for inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and what evidence that would require.

Regardless of whether or not the fears around him are justified, those fears lost Republicans a good deal of the nation. The GOP needs to tackle those fears head on if it wants to win. Or find someone else to be their figurehead.
Will Vance be the one?
I’m mad as hell at Trump myself right now….For Iran/Izzy/Ukraine& inflation……but I voted for him 3 times….because the Dems look like commies to me, particularly all the Bernie bots.
There is no comparable “Trump Infatuation Syndrome” on the right. Just level headed people who voted for him because of his policies and continue to support him because of his incredible strength in the face of relentless TDS attacks , his incredible energy and ability to multitask, his openness with the press, his excellent cabinet choices who have implemented his policies with professionalism and great success. Most of all his courage and obvious love of this country. He took a bullet that should have blown his brains out and continued campaigning in front of huge crowds knowing the Secret Service could not protect him. That makes up for any of his personality quirks that only show him to be an imperfect human like the rest of us.
We just had an election, and even the “level-headed” people who put Trump into office have recoiled at his incompetence, corruption, greed and cruelty and voted in Democrats across the country at all levels of government – even in the reddest states of Texas, South Carolina, and Kansas. TDS is just a political insult, not a recognized medical or psychiatric diagnosis; but extreme devotion to a particular person is often ascribed to cults.
I am pissed at Trump too, from all the political capitol he has squandered. Exactly two years ago, the question was whether this was the end of the democrat party. For the good of the Nation, Trump should have waited until these midterms before starting it up with Iran. Anyone who pays attention knows that a suicidal, apocalyptic, homicidal, homophobic, misogynistic regime like Iran’s which does not care for it’s citizens will put up with a lot of destruction and resource deprivation before caving. I am willing to put up with high gas prices to topple a rogue nation like Iran, but most people apparently dont have an adequate sense of the seriousness of the threat of a nuclear-capable Iran. Trump’s overall arrogance, his penchant for re-naming things, insulting our neighboring countries and reticence for getting the job done in Iran cost this country a big political price. That bravado is so unnecessary and turns off a lot of potential supporters of his overall agenda.
Our touch with reality should be questioned, not only does our state have TDS, it also seems to think we have great leadership the last 10 years!
Vermont leadership for the last ten years has made many, many drastic changes! Unprecedented!
We had the most democratic super majority in our history!
We had the weakest vtgop since Vermont was founded!
Highest rate and highest increase in drug deaths, drug crimes, crimes in general, and addicted births, again in the history of Vermont!
We had the biggest scandal EB5 to 5 billion, where the states only job was to make sure they didn’t release money until things were built, oops, nobody even lost their job or a needs improvement.
Worst educational outcomes at the highest expense and rising?
Same for medical insurance.
The most constitutional changes in our entire history?
Taking of peoples property without compensation.
Taking of constitutional rights.
Taking control from parents over their children
Taking control of medical freedom and enforcing medical experimentation on humans.
Got us to be the only state that didn’t nominate Trump!
Crossed party lines and voted for the opposite team!
Yeah, this is the most popular governor in Vermont. These are the results, yet everyone will say he’s the best Vermont has, the best the VT.gop has to offer.
Is he a Republican?
Bonhoeffer was correct.
