Policy for The People will host a Candidates of Color Forum Friday June 10, bringing together educated and engaged leaders from across Vermont to discuss the issues shaping the state’s future and share their visions for public service.
Featuring candidates seeking office in the 2026 election cycle, the forum will showcase individuals whose combined experience spans education, healthcare, family and children’s services, community advocacy, business, youth leadership, and public office. Together, these candidates bring decades of professional, civic, and political experience to conversations about Vermont’s future.
Learn more about the platforms of:
• Incumbent Representative Golrang “Rey” Garofano, Chittenden-23 (Democrat)

• Esther Charlestin, candidate for Lieutenant Governor (Democrat)

• Brandolyn Bradley, candidate for the Caledonia-Essex House District (Independent)

• Javen Sears, candidate for Vermont State Senate, Chittenden Southeast District (Republican)

As the founder of Policy for The People, I believe voters deserve opportunities to hear directly from qualified candidates whose careers and lived experiences have prepared them to lead. This forum is an opportunity to learn more about the expertise, leadership, and vision these candidates would bring to public office,” PFTP Executive Director Jac Posey said.
The discussion will focus on issues that affect Vermonters across the political spectrum, including housing, healthcare, education, taxation, and strengthening communities throughout the state.
This live virtual event will be made available to the public through Burlington’s Town Meeting TV, ensuring voters throughout Vermont can access the conversation regardless of location or accessibility needs.

People elected to an office are representatives, not Leaders! Constituents are supposed to be the leaders.
It worked fine for a long time. What has changed? Dumbing down of our schools? Zero Election Integrity with 100% NGO Run Tabulators, Voter Rolls, and Ballot Handling. (the USPS endorses progressive union bosses) Main Stream and Social Media Controlling Propaganda that Everyone Swallows and Censoring Common Men? No Free Economy but only State Run Businesses?
Looks like Soviet Union 2.0 to me.
Sounds like we have a bunch of people who are hell-bent on maintaining segregation. They seem to consider themselves Black first, and Americans second. If we have learned (and should know) segregation is not the positive look for America. As Americans, we all are something: Black, Brown, Red, White, Yellow, and even a mixture of that. As Americans we are all something: religious, non-religious, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and even favor no political party at all. America is supposed to be the melting pot for many cultures, and races. Time to lay down segregation. (I realize some won’t) but to the majority (especially those running in politics) lead by example not prejudice.
The Democrat party does this to isolate whole groups of people in order to get their vote.
As a Native Vermonter, with known Native American ancestors, plus French and English ancestors, I have this to say: The social contract that we agreed to in Vermont was that we are all equal. It’s fine if you want to celebrate your identity and heritage in private. But to have a special political event that excludes people based on race or heritage is discriminatory, and inflammatory. What if someone said they wanted to hold a WHITE ONLY meeting? Only people with PURE WHITE European ancestors could attend. I’m sure you will be happy and fine for us to do that?
Or…would you call me a racist for doing so?
Personally I can not imagine holding a race based meeting. It is the opposite of what Vermont stood for for hundreds of years (even before we joined the USA). The goal is to ignore the color of our skin and our ancestral heritage in order to work together as equals for a better future where people can keep the rewards of their labor and efforts. Regardless of their past.
Hi all, happy to see this forum is on everyone’s radar. The algorithm boost is appreciated. Happy primaries!
I am glad many people from all walks of life run for office. However, I see no moral justification to put an ethnic restriction on the list of reasons why someone is qualified to be in an organization. That seems like discrimination to me. These organizations that say blacks for this or hispanics for that etc… are mostly formed in support of the Democrat party and the ideology they spread is not free market capitalism. They are nothing more than organizations for Democrats to use to get out the vote in neighborhoods where many people of color live. They demonize people of color who vote for Republicans or run for office as Republicans. So, they should be outlawed unless they open up their organizations to all people regardless of ideology or race. The Democrat party has hijacked a whole group of people and all they care about is their vote and power. They could care less about making their lives better.
Pauly: reading is fundamental. There’s both a Republican and an Independent on this panel. There is also a Republican in the second panel. What’s your excuse for the hate now? Care to drum up a new reason outside of hate for other races?
