Police are looking into a light-hearted series of theft reports at the Five Below store in the Berlin Mall after officers received a second call on November 29 involving what appears to be the same mischievous suspect.
According to the department, the individual — described humorously as tall, fuzzy, and “slightly grouchy” — was reportedly spotted returning to the store, prompting concerns that the repeat visitor may once again be up to holiday-themed mischief. Officers say a quick-thinking shopper managed to capture a clearer photo of the suspect, which officials hope will help identify whoever is behind the antics.

While the department did not suggest any real threat to the public, the report leans into the seasonal spirit, noting that the suspect is possibly “plotting to borrow Christmas decorations,” “eyeing cookies with suspicious intent,” and may even “break into spontaneous grumbling.”
Some playful “whispers,” police added, hint that the character could reappear on December 6 at the same store.
Shoppers are encouraged to keep track of their gifts, guard their holiday cheer, and stay vigilant for any dramatic posing or suspicious side-eye. Anyone who encounters the character is reminded not to panic — after all, police joked, “their heart might grow three sizes… but only with proper encouragement.”
The department did not report any injuries or significant losses associated with the incidents.
