The use of OnStar to stop a stolen vehicle led to three arrests in Derby over the weekend.
Milton — A vehicle fire on I-89 North near mile marker 104.2 on June 30 led to the discovery that the driver, Travis Reynells, 51, of Colchester, was operating under a criminally suspended license. Reynells’ 2009 Subaru Forester was fully engulfed in flames upon troopers’ arrival, though he exited safely. He was cited to appear in Chittenden County court August 7.
Guilford — Vermont State Police are investigating the non-suspicious death of Matthew Rice, 59, of Easthampton, Massachusetts. Rice was found unresponsive behind the I-91 North rest area in Guilford on Sunday morning. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Orleans — Roy Leland, 67, of Orleans was cited for criminal threatening after allegedly threatening to shoot two neighbors during a dispute on Water Street Friday evening.
Newbury — A motorcycle crash on June 29 sent Samuel Mattson, 32, of Marshfield to Cottage Hospital with suspected moderate injuries. Police say Mattson, riding a Harley-Davidson, crossed the center line on Railroad Street and collided with a pickup driven by Cole King, 19, of Newbury. Charges are pending.
Derby — A stolen 2022 GMC Sierra tracked by OnStar led to three arrests near US-5 and VT-105. Shane Lontine, 43, of Coventry was arrested for vehicle theft and driving with a suspended license. Melissa Ofsuryk, 42, of Coventry and Kyle Neill, 52, of Woodbury were taken into custody on outstanding warrants. Troopers were assisted by Orleans County deputies and U.S. Border Patrol.
State Police say OnStar deactivated the vehicle as troopers encountered the occupants. The occupants briefly did not comply with orders, resulting in a visible police response to the area.

Think of what they can do when your car is completely “autonomous” aka completely controlled by the government, ngo’s and lobbyists. They can turn it off. They can steer it off the road. They can make it run into somebody. The possibilities are endless. Social Credit score drops, suddenly your car won’t start. Say something on Front Porch Forum “they” don’t like, your car seems to be running poorly, then suddenly won’t run. Castro would love this tool, but he hasn’t been able to figure out how to do this in a 1950 Belair Chevrolet.
Go over the speed limit, suddenly your insurance company raises your rates. Oh, how convenient.
correct.
Not to mention drive you to your experimental ‘treatment’.
