Don’t preach to me, California.

You, the EV State, stubbornly defend to water and forest management policies that have left your dry woodlands vulnerable to forest fires. Now trees (and homes) are on fire.

As summarized by today’s Journal-Opinion: “Nearly 30,000 acres have burned and some 2,000 buildings have been destroyed or damaged as severe Santa Ana winds have whipped up several large wildfires in the Los Angeles area since Monday.

“The fires have killed at least five people and rendered tens of thousands homeless virtually overnight. Neighborhoods, historic properties, schools, and houses of worship have been wiped out.

“A map by the LA Times shows the extent of the evacuation orders and warning areas.

“Two new fires emerged last night, but firefighters effectively contained at least one of them even as traffic has snarled the roadways.’

California, for decades you’ve preached to us about the carbon molecules coming out of our gas-powered car tailpipes while at the same time allowing millions of nature’s carbon-eating machines – trees – to go up in plumes of smoke equal to the total carbon emissions of an economic powerhouse like Germany.

These destructive, carbon-emitting policies continue even as you promise to hold the line against President-elect Trump’s proposed change of EPA rules allowing states to set their own emissions standards and ban the sale of gas-powered cars and trucks.

You could have protected the carbon-eaters God gave you with the same single-minded audacity. But, no.

And so you strain at the gnat of EV mandates while swallowing the camel of the fiery destruction of millions of acres of woodlands.

California, your integrity and judgement have been found wanting. I hope our Vermont legislators unhitch their electric wagon from the soot-covered star of your emissions reductions standards.  And I hope they also heard Sen. Kesha Ram Hinsdale’s comment that Vermont should think less about being First In The Nation in Carbon Reduction and more about protecting her citizens from all threats, both natural and manmade.

Hey, California. Tend your own garden.

  1. And yet people like AG Clark, and 2/3rds of our legislature will follow California down any road that they choose to take . It’s kinda like a leech attaching it’s self to a victim that is about to die . They just don’t get it !

  2. Vermont has had its share of natural disasters in recent years. I trust no one in California was writing editorials about our negligence to address our crises.

    • Vermont’s liberals learned from california’s examples. Vermont liberals are now skilled in the same caustic methods, ignorance and fantasy as those in california.
As you view images of the now dystopian landscape in the aftermath of the fires, remember that vermont law now mirrors many of california’s ridiculous legislative initiatives. Vermont too, has transformed from a veritable paradise into a dystopian nightmare, virtually unlivable by the middle-class and poor without subsidy.

  3. Got to wonder how all of those fires started in many places just in time for their heavy wind problem.

  4. This goes to show that liberal leadership, they are never ready for real disasters, and the concerns and safety of all its citizens, but they are prepared to promote their nonsense agendas.

Let’s see, reduce funding for fire & rescue when you know there are dry conditions, with no water sources, and high winds and you wonder why this happens, yup liberals are in charge, they always have the cart before the horse and Vermont’s elected officials think California is a state to follow…………………. pretty pathetic.

People suffer when you have inept people in charge…………… Karma ??

  5. When the rich and famous get hit in the face with what Agenda 30 really entails and looks like – they don’t like it so much – reality does bite and sometimes bites really hard. Pacific Palasades and Malibu – we’re not talking about the seedy side of LA – quite the contrary.

My condolences to the thousands of people who lost everything, lost jobs, lost pets, lost their lives, are injured and traumatized. As one commenter posted on a news feed stream – “Hey California – are you awake yet?” Vermont better wake up too.

  6. Will other states follow political incompetencies like California that lead to future disasters? We are sending out these warnings now to legislators and city councils about overspending, excessive taxation, restrictions that create gridlock bureaucracy, and impeding progress with blizzards of paperwork and regulations that promote Green Greed at the expense of the health, safety, protection, and welfare of all states citizens,

California’s Mayor Bass just gave a raise to her incompetent Water Commissioner washer woman to make her salary now $750,000…and then she forgot how to simply turn the hydrants on and divert reservoir resources to Palisades…sounds more like incestuous elites padding their backsides with more Green Greed. No wonder they won’t all resign in disgrace..

Pinocchio Joe with a wave of his hand says the govt will pay for everything! Yeah right. That $500,000,000 he just gifted Ukraine would have helped California…He has just days left but continues to drain our economy with false promises. You sure know how to waste this country’s money on other countries…do you realize that we have a country in need? Tone deaf so we don’t expect any kind of answer from you. Deer in the headlights look like the pretender mayor Bass when refusing to answer any reporters’ questions and accusations…Newscumm also caught with his pants down…better yet his pants on fire. These governing incompetent charlatans need to resign and be tried in court. That definitely includes Pinocchio Joe and his fellow wooden puppets.

What are individual states’ futures if we continue to follow suit?
