The Town of St. Johnsbury will have a ‘drag queen story hour’ for young children at the historic Athenaeum public library. The community is responding both in support and opposition, and the opposition alleges censorship by the petition website Change.org.
The event is to occur on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 PM. The local police chief Joel Pierce has already issued a statement concerning potential protests.
“I just ask that parties involved remain peaceful and respectful,” Pierce said. “Freedoms concerning expression, assembly and the right to petition do not protect those committing crimes.” The chief is not certain if there will or won’t be protests.
The two persons doing the readings will be ‘Emoji Nightmare’ and ‘Katniss Everqueer’.
Nightmare’s real name is Justin Marsh. Marsh has a bio on Marsh’s YouTube page, which features music videos of Marsh performing. Marsh created this new performance personality in 2015.
“From there, she went on to be second runner up in the amateur competition Vermont Drag Idol [2015]. In 2017 she launched an arts and activist talk show with Nikki Champagne and co-founded the Vermont chapter of Drag Queen Story Hour. She produces and hosts drag, burlesque, and comedy shows across Northern New England,” the profile reads.

Marsh has been doing story hours for years, including one covered by True North Reports in the summer of 2019.
“For the second year in a row, the Kellogg-Hubbard Library hosted a drag queen story hour for the public. This time more than 100 people attended, mostly with their children of young ages,” the report states.
It continues, “Dressed in outfits that resembled clown attire, the two performers sang songs and read books, much like one would expect from ordinary story time at a local library. Similar events around the country have stirred up opposition, but Saturday’s hourlong event in Vermont took place without controversy.”
One of the books read at the Montpelier event was “Fancy Nancy” by Jane O’Connor. It’s a story about a young girl who is experimental with her clothing. TNR wrote, “She’s constantly looking for more exotic outfits and accessories to spice up her image. The story has been adapted for TV, musicals, toys, and even a Nintendo video game.”
Double standard at Change.org?
Change.org is under scrutiny today deleting a post critical of the story hour event while leaving up a post in support.
The Caledonian-Record reports, “A change.org petition started by Marlowe Malatesta, of St. Johnsbury, states, “This petition is for the parents, kids, and community members to express their interest in and support for bringing Drag Story Hour to the NEK.”
The report continues that when opponents of the event tried to create a similar petition, the site took it down.
“An opponent’s effort to create a change.org petition calling for cancellation was short-lived. It was unavailable shortly after it was posted, presumably because it failed to meet the platform’s eligibility criteria,” the report states. Such actions may be contrary to statements on Change.org’s policy sections concerning media censorship.
In response to the cancellation, local organizers have created a Facebook page called St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Administrator Sam Bent writes: “This group was created due to the censorship, of other St Johnsbury Groups. This group values free speech and encourages open dialogue on community issues. Unlike other groups that may limit discussions, we believe in the importance of voicing concerns and opinions. However, with this freedom comes the responsibility to express your thoughts respectfully and constructively. This ensures that all members are heard and the conversation remains productive.”

Are violent video games played round the clock in homes across our country a “normal activity for children?”
So, we should allow by right strip clubs and burlesque clubs and drag shows? That is what is being said here…….forget about the children, what about all the consumers denied a choice of entertainment? Why can’t we have pole dancing Friday nights at all the public libraries? Is this activity only for elementary school children? How ageist can you get? We should have strip shows in all the high school biology classes, in the name of science and inclusion of course.
Doesn’t make too much sense when you expand it huh? That’s because it doesn’t make any sense to begin with.
Biology class attendance would certainly improve among the guys, for sure.
One day these individuals are going to have to answer for this.

These men are disgusting, this is inappropriate for children. Yup, I said men, not women! It’s bad enough there’s adults that support this garbage. Anyone that brings a child to this should have there children removed, and they should be put on sex offender registry, yes, even for their own kids. The judgements are coming, if I were them, I’d repent.
To each her, or his, own, opinion, but WHY is it necessary to perform in any such public venue? I live in a town that financially supports a similar venue where such “programs” have occurred. I was not in favor of that, but my voice was/is not honored. I once lived in San Francisco, and such performances were in venues for “adult entertainment”. IMO!
Read the academic papers on queer theory. One paper by I believe Judith Butler discusses the true intent of drag queen story hour which is to build feelings of kindship with children. By definition this mean blood or family lines/relationships. Of course these relationships would replace the existing family bonds. There is a reason why Dr. James Lindsay of the New discourse Podcast calls these people “groomers”. You can go out and find his reading of the paper written by trans activist Judith Butler on the web.
In early October, Robby Starbuck, reported that Toyota and Lexus would no longer engage in pride parades, pride events or LGBTQ children’s summer camps. It’s worth noting that these are companies with nearly $300 billion dollar market cap and 381,000 employees that will no longer be subjected to this divisive stuff. This phenomenon of the financial world was exposed by Robby’s video – War on Children, that explained why so many industries were actively engaged in funding and promoting events like Drag Queen Story Hours.
These deranged crackpots are just fit-to-be tied that the NEK is still mostly red. And like the “tolerant” leftists they surely are, they are attacking all of womanhood and preying upon innocent children to prove it.
In response, the obedient mothers who undoubtably believe a dude could have just as easily given birth to their offspring, lay plans to lead their babies off to the library like lambs led to slaughter.
These mental misfits need to be carried off in strait jackets to an asylum and put away for life.
They aren’t just psychotic, they are dangerous – to children, to women, to society.
Preying upon the most vulnerable children. Those without benefit of a respected father in a 2-parent household. As sure as there is a God, there is also Satan.
I do not understand the parents taking their kids to this show.
If you’ve made financial donations to the Athenaeum in the past, it’s time to stop.
Every year they request money from the town on the town meeting ballot, it’s time to vote NO.
If they were really sincere why don’t drag queens ever read at nursing homes? If its about reading, why don’t they dress up like librarians?
When these same two tranvestites showed up at the Craftsbury Library early this past summer, my wife and I showed up there with flyers I had written and printed which were addressed specifically to the parents who would be exposing their children to such demonic and frivolous perversity.
I also asked the librarian why she would allow this event at the library, and she would not give me an answer.
The poor children are too young to understand what’s happening—exactly the way the transvestites want it—and are simply trusting and following because mommy and daddy know best.
But it’s the parents who are wantonly exposing and subjecting the children they have been charged with protecting to evil and perversity, so it’s them we addressed.
We had several interesting conversations during the couple hours we stood outside the library, and we went in love, but we earnestly appealed to the parents to please not do this to their children. As you might expect, unfortunately, 100% of the parents not only thought they were doing nothing wrong or harmful to their children, but they actually thought they were providing a positive educational environment and opportunity for their vulnerable children.
It’s so tragic that so many are so deceived, but this is why we must continue to pray and intercede for the veils of deception to removed from the eyes, hearts, and minds of our neighbors. There is hope, and there is no greater evidence of this than the results of the national election last week. It is in these times of greatest darkness when evil is being called good, and good is being called evil, that the love of Jesus and the light of the gospel of the kingdom of God can shine the most powerfully and brightly. As hearts and lives are transformed, society will be reformed.

So weird how these ladies don’t seem to have the balls to read books to inmates. And I guess they have no use for seniors. But they sure do love those soft little kids. Hmm hmm.

Jails and senior centers are often privately owned and are not public places. And the adults that reside within those walls are capable of reading for themselves.

“David davis”, clearly, you’ve not been in either a “jail” or a “senior center” which is an entirely different entity than a nursing home. Which is what “Chris” posed up above.
And you are correct, nursing homes are privately owned. Senior Centers however are completely funded by taxpayers. As are jails or Correctional Facilities. So, while a private company may administer them, they are indeed funded by tax payer dollars and not private entities.
But more to the point, if you had spent any time in any of the facilities you would know without a shadow of a doubt that most residents in Nursing homes can no longer read, and they would LOVE it if someone spent some time with them. Jails, well, their inmates most likely can’t read but they would love the attention. Deserving of attention is a different subject matter.
How do I know this? 35 years as an RN and a vast experience across many healthcare facilities, to include working at Cheshire County Correctional Facility. That’s how I know.

Both the agents of queer and the parents could be prosecutable.
Police chief probably doesn’t have to worry about protesters- most people that would protest are out hunting.
Just have to ask yourself one question—- who are these drag story events actually FOR? The kids or the queens?
Yet another obvious example of grooming of the young. Why not have model citizens, athletes, and successful citizens to read to these young minds? Oh no…the warped Vermont Woke Cabal continues to trot out these moustachioed penis female pretenders into the arena to corrupt and influence the frontal lobes of the innocent to embrace their satanic agenda. Boycott…oppose…and loudly speak out in a Christian response to this disgusting sick display of evil…

I’m sure the local public libraries would love to have some of those folks you suggested offer to read publicly to child groups. I bet they’re actually desperate for a diverse group of local volunteers.
Problem is very few want to offer up their free time to do so. Successful Americans only work when they get paid don’t ya know

Rather than boycott and opposition you could grab a book yourself and head down to your public library…assuming you pass the background check.
