18-year-old charged with assault on his infant child

An 18-year-old Bennington man was charged Wednesday, March 8 with assaulting his infant son Monday, March 6 in Bennington. 

The Vermont State Police say John T. Chinnici Jr., 18 was arrested following an investigation that began when police were notified of a suspicious injury to the one-year-old on Wednesday, March 8. Police do not provide details of the injury, or the sex of the child. 

Vermont State Police Special Investigation Unit detectives coordinated with the Department of Children and Families and interviewed the child’s father, Chinnici. During the course of the investigation, information was obtained that showed Chinnici injured the infant purposefully. Chinnici, who will turn 19 in May, was arrested, processed, and charged as an adult with one count of Aggravated Assault. He was jailed, and bail information is not available.

  3. Strange that this young man abused his son and is being held as an adult while the 18 year old in Burlington who stabbed another 10 times is asking to be treated as a minor, go figure. Stab ten times and suffer nothing as a minor?? Both 18. Come on, both are serious and should be treated as adults, jail time for both 👍
