Woman sics dogs on state troopers, VSP says

A Monkton woman is facing charges after Vermont State Police say she tried to have her dogs attack responding troopers during a domestic disturbance call.

The incident happened about 6:34 p.m. on Aug. 9 on Twin Ridge Road in Monkton. Troopers from the New Haven Barracks arrived to investigate a family fight and spoke with Hailey Lowell, 32.

Police say Lowell became hostile and attempted to direct her dogs to attack the officers. She was arrested and taken to the New Haven Barracks. Lowell is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division, on Oct. 20 at 12:30 p.m. on a charge of simple assault.


Hartland fatal crash kills one, injures two

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Route 12 in Hartland on Aug. 9.

Vermont State Police say the collision happened about 1:02 p.m. near Cobb Hill Road when a southbound Toyota RAV4, driven by Jamison O’Neil, 35, of Hartland, collided head-on with a northbound GMC Sierra driven by Joseph Petrone, 77, of Cos Cob, Connecticut.

O’Neil was pronounced dead at the scene. Petrone and his passenger, Angela Petrone, 76, were taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Vermonter dies in New Hampshire tractor-trailer crash

A Granby man was killed early Friday when the tractor-trailer he was driving plunged into the Winnipesaukee River.

New Hampshire State Police identified the driver as Benjamin Wilson, 48.

Police say Wilson was traveling on Interstate 93 just before 2 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he failed to negotiate a curve, struck the median guardrail, and crashed into the river.

Man held without bail after Devil’s Bowl assault

A Leicester man is being held without bail after Vermont State Police say he caused serious injuries to another man during an assault at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven.

Troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to the track about 7:54 p.m. Aug. 10 and determined that Christopher Bridgmon, 39, assaulted Anthony Andrews, 56, of Middlebury.

Bridgmon was taken into custody and ordered held without bail by a judicial officer. He is scheduled to appear in Rutland Superior Court on Aug. 11.

Shaftsbury man charged with lewd conduct

A Shaftsbury man has been charged with lewd and lascivious conduct following an investigation by Vermont State Police.

Police say a female victim reported sexual abuse on Aug. 5. Detectives developed probable cause to charge Arthur Mattison, 69.

Mattison turned himself in to the Shaftsbury Barracks on Aug. 8. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Bennington Superior Court on Aug. 11.


Catalytic converter stolen at Fairlee boat launch

Vermont State Police are investigating the theft of a catalytic converter from a pickup truck at the Lake Morey Boat Launch.

Troopers say the part was stolen from a red Ram 2500 between about 6 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. on Aug. 8.
