A Burlington bar fight led to shooting death early this morning, police say.
Shortly after midnight Saturday, August 24, 2024, the Burlington Police Department dispatch center received radio traffic from a Community Service Officer (CSO) who was on foot in City Hall Park.
The CSO reported that he had heard multiple gunshots. Officers responded and located a man who had been struck by gunfire. They immediate vply began CPR. An off-duty officer who was nearby also assisted. At the same time, another officer approaching the scene encountered and apprehended a female suspect, Aaliyah Johnson, 22, and recovered a .45 caliber pistol.
Officers attempting to provide medical care to the victim were hampered by a large crowd that surrounded the officers. This crowd had to be pushed back in order to preserve the crime scene, which included shell casings, bullets, and blood evidence.
The man who was struck was identified as Teville Williams, 30, of Stowe. He was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center and declared dead there.
Police say an altercation developed between Williams and Johnson inside Red Square, in which Williams allegedly assaulted Johnson. Staff from the bar required both parties to leave, via separate doors.
Johnson exited one door and moved towards the other to confront Williams on Church Street. She then allegedly shot him several times.
This investigation is in its earliest stages and the Department will provide more information as the case develops. This shooting is not believed to be associated with the incidents described in an earlier BPD press release on Friday, August 23. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.

Another murder in once peaceable Vermont and according to a recent story reported by a national network news affiliate out of the area – police are now searching for throngs of youths who are roving the streets of the city brandishing guns and threatening members of the public.
But NOT to worry! According to a recent poster on VDC, fear of crime is irrational and unjustified!
That previous comment was my first thought.
…and that “fear of crime” is also deemed racist.
Seems a simple issue of “temporary insanity”. Progressive jury will easily aquit!
Unusual names?
Unusual names from unusual states, either now or of a previous time, not native.
Definitely. Red Square is filled with this particular… sub-culture.
Nah, they must old-fashioned, old English, or perhaps French-Canadian derivations from centuries ago around the time VT first joined the union.
Yay! “Diversity”!!!! Otherwise known as: DIVERGENT. As in opposition to: HARMONY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps the first names, not the last, I share the same last name as the suspect. I’m definitely a native, 9th generation. Alcohol, arguments and guns usually don’t mix well. That said, we don’t yet know the threat level that the accused was experiencing, so I feel it’s too early to make any summary judgment. I will say though, if you’re going to defend yourself against assault, it’s worth making it count… a .45 caliber makes it count.
Probably not native Vermonters. No pictures on WCAX or Local 22 speaks volumes.
What’s the over under on the usual suspects?Great! I am in .
Not for nothing , but there seems to be a cultural disconnect here which leads to extremes on how to resolve issues. Just an observation which appears more frequently .
As I was told in a previous life, “ Keep your combat eye open”.
And this is happening across the street from the Mayors office on a regular basis, along with homelessness and the dropping of needles on the side walk after shooting up. It’s been going on for a decade now, can’t even keep their front lawn in order.
Perhaps we need some old codger to yell, “Get off my lawn!”
Instead, we foster and import drug use, what could go wrong with this plan?
Meanwhile VT Digger says nothing. huh.
I won’t personally be happy until they are doing so on the lawns of the Mayor’s home and the properties of all the legislators! Remember Communists of Montpelier: “Tolerance” now……..let them shoot up in front of your kids & have knife & gun battles in your garages & front porches!
And keep them unlocked, you snobs! Don’t you DARE be OBSTRUCTIONISTS!!!!!
Digger is busy searching for truth that fits it’s agenda.
Seems the two most dangerous places in Burlington are adjacent to both the Mayor’s office and right next to the police station in Battery Park…if you like this situation, be sure to thank a progressive voter.
Make them welcome and they will come…in murderous droves.
“Officers attempting to provide medical care to the victim were hampered by a large crowd that surrounded the officers.” Well, there ya go.
I am from the inner city, and for the last 30 years of moving about, I noticed the more money progressives have, the more insulated their hoods are from the riff-raff that they send to everyone else’s areas.
Ya gotta laugh at a for-profit biz calling itself Red Square, btw. But that’s what gets butts into seats, am I right? There’s tons of money to be made in promoting a downward spiral.

Might you suggest a more appropriate name would be “red star”?
When will Residents say they have had enough of this violence and mayhem in Burlington? The carnage continues and nobody seems to care (the citizens of Burlington, certainly not the mayor or city council, the legal system (or lack thereof), or the Marxist-supporting-Its-OK-to-perpetrate-violence-on-citizens Media). There really is a case study here for the meltdown and destruction of a once great City. Stay out of Burlington at all costs if you value your safety.
Wcax interviewed one longtime church st resident who expressed his frustrations and in talking about possible solutions used the term “gun violence”……ugh, sometimes those violent guns have a mind of their own and just snap. We still need a reckoning.
Didn’t they pass laws to ban guns in Burlington?? Ha ha ! See how that works?
They tried, but thank God VT has a pre-emption law, so state law prevails.
The good news is there is one less POS to potentially harm law abiding citizens☠️
Probably two.
A wise man in law enforcement once to me a story. A black inmate asked him “Mr. S… how come it’s only us brothers here in prison?” He replied, “because it’s you brothers who commit the crimes.”
OK let me guess, it’s the gun’s fault. It had nothing to do with two people who got into it with each other. Or is it Red Square’s fault? They DID tell them to leave via separate doors. Maybe they could have done more? Either way, how dare we blame Johnson. But hey, we need this diversity so….
Just another evening in the ” cesspool ” known as Burlington, this is what living is like in a progressive controlled city.
It sounds like Burlington’s new DEI-hired Mayor is over her head, and her backup knowledge base is the city council, you know the same gaggle of fools that hate the police, so how’s all this working for Burlington’s tax-paying citizens, are you getting your money’s worth ??
Well with one dead, and hopefully the shooter goes to prison for her lifetime, so that would be two off the streets !!!
Don’t look now but……Burlington is OVER.
>>>”Shortly after midnight Saturday, August 24, 2024, the Burlington Police Department dispatch center received radio…”_<<<
Am I reading incorrectly, or lost on my dates? It's Saturday August 24h 9:22 P.M. right NOW. How did BPD get it after midnight tonight?🤔
If they want to continue with this type of violence then the problem will go away after they kill each other.
…there is no magic antidote like Narcan for a .45 wound…
Muhhhhh…diversity. How’s that going B-Town?
DEI should be spelled DIE to be more realistic about its outcomes.
It was originally. They switched it when people started making fun of it. They still get mad if you say “DIE,” and it’s still funny to ask them why it matters. 😄
Simple patrols and enforcement of laws already in place would prevent most of the shootings and deaths created by the current approach. Every fix put in place over the years to protect the general law abiding innocent public is broken. How did it become that way? I do not recall any laws being repealed. It is becoming apparent that a overhaul of prosecuters and judges should be open for starters.
Agreed, if the prosecuters judges keep slapping their hands, it will continue.
The inovative program is called BLM/defund the police…
Not enough information is available about this incident. It’s possible there was a disparity of force, or some other self-defense justification.
Legalizing and controlling substances that fund and generate organized crime would prevent the most crime. Remove the illegal perversions of the interstate commerce clause.
Law enforcement patrols in the state houses that arrest politicians for the destruction of wealth and constitutional violations would prevent most crime. Poverty is the number 1 contributor to crime. Government is the number 1 contributor to poverty.
Separating those who cannot live with society unsupervised would prevent most crime. I agree, enforcement of laws already in place – including laws the government is supposed to be following most importantly. The police would be getting a lot less calls if we didn’t have repeat offenders that haven’t been separated from society like they should have been to begin with. The majority of incidents are from folks that have proven to be a problem, over and over again.
Stealing more money from us to have expensive chaperones enact the will of the same government that’s causing all the problems to begin with, will do nothing to prevent anything. Escalations will be used against YOU bud. Police are a reaction to a problem, not a solution to the problem. The people creating the problems design the system so you beg for more spending, more police, and more government “help”.
A 22 yr old female unloads a .45 caliber pistol aimed at a 30 yr old male, killing him – in gun free zone Burlington, VT. Was the female locked and loaded for a night out on the town with the intent to use it should her feelings get hurt? How many more pistol packing mamas or papas are lurking in the clubs in gun free zone Burlington?
As the colleges and UVM are in full swing, the bullets will be flying and the knives a’swinging all over town. Be careful out there kids and nightclub staffers, any altercation could be your last. Bravo to Vermont’s leadership and do-gooder non-profiteer activists – the dead soul society and cultural rot you manifested is all yours to enjoy – try not to choke on your rewards.
Everyone here is blaming others for the gun violence. It’s not “liberals” and “progressives” causing gun violence. It’s not DEI. Let’s start where gun violence starts. At the ease of which it takes to get a gun. The laws in place and the typical groups supporting gun freedom. Next you look at background checks. And last but not least in this case you look at the two people involved. What was it about? Williams was reportedly hassling Johnson. Why? Drugs? Sex? Gangs?
If someone brandishes a gun in public – they should be reported to the police = period. Vermont is an open and conceal carry state. No license – but drawing your weapon indicates thought of use. The kids running around pulling their guns are an issue and one to be figured out when they get caught.
Funny, you clearly haven’t lived in Vermont for any length of time, nor did you go to high school here.
We brought our guns to school, for God’s sake, to go deer hunting after school.
We never had a gun violence issue, and we had just as many guns and it was even easier to get them back in the day.
No, we’ve got drug dealers, drug crimes, no law enforcement and we’ve lost our collective minds, thinking that drugs are ok, no big deal.
We don’t know anything about the story, nor will we likely until after court, because the press won’t cover it unless it’s white on minority crime, and if it’s not they could care less who kills each other, because it won’t help them build racial division.
Nobody cares that Chicago is more dangerous place to live than any war we fought in the last 20 years. That is sad. Nope nothing to see here, Vermont is following the footsteps of their soul city, Chicago….Marxism really is not good. Alynsky philosophy in life is not good, but this is what we are foster in our “Brave little state”….way too much propaganda, bad for the mind.
We’ve always had guns. Its not the guns it’s the minds.
To all the gun control activisits, please answer this without bulleted, scripted talking points from the DNC or your indoctrination community activist pot luck dinners.
“Let’s start where gun violence starts.” Remove the word gun, clean up the grammar and answer this: How and/or why does violence of any sort manifest in a seemingly civilized society? The weapon of choice matters little when there is pre-meditated or lack of impulse control to inflict harm. Of the several million gun owners in the United States, your belief (and that of your ilk) is that gun owners only own guns to kill or maim and somehow daft in the head enough to unload it on someone. If that were the case, the United States would be riddled with bulletholes from coast to coast and our population would be far less than 330,000,000+/-.
If only human embryos or full term infants were able to be armed with a gun to defend their lives and liberty. The problem with gun control advocates is they don’t like the killing in the streets, but killing and maiming innocent civilians in the name of freedom and democracy is perfectly fine. If it happens at Planned Parenthood with a pair of forceps, that is perfectly fine as well. You wave a Ukraine flag, while how many over there are slaughtered with guns and rockets supplied by you – through your tax dollars, donations to NGOs and corrupt politicians. How much blood spilled in the sands of the Middle East for over two decades…you don’t seem upset about that at all.
The cherry picking leftwits need to wake up to a government war machine that cares very little, if at all, about their feelings. The reason for violence in the United States is because your leadership has worked tirelessly to make sure it happens by any means necessary – here and abroad. Perhaps the growing misery index has left people with a sense they have nothing to lose or have lost it all. The Democrats love the control and power they have – see how well our society prospers under their control and how many dead bodies pile up from drug overdoses and the violence that surrounds that flourishing business model.
“The richest country in the world”, said old Georgie Bush. Yet we have more violence, death, destruction and hatred manifesting daily in unbelievable numbers. Think harder, it’s not the guns – it’s the mind control tactics designed by the puppet masters that you refuse to acknowledge, let alone accept.
