A federal judge has freed the Newport woman who pleaded no contest in November, 2023 to dragging and seriously injuring a state police officer with her car.
The Caledonian-Record reports that Angela Birk, 42, of Newport was freed from prison after a judge agreed with her lawyer’s request to reduce her sentence. She had been scheduled to serve a total of 10 months, getting out in August. Before her November, 2023 sentencing, she had been held in pre-trial detention in prison.
Iin February 2022, state police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Birk as part of a drug investigation. Police say she dragged Sgt. Matthew Tarricone for 50 yards along the road. After Tarricone freed himself from the car, Birk attempted to elude police at speeds exceeding 100 MPH. She was later captured.
Sgt. Tarricone suffered head, facial, elbow and knee injuries.
Berlin cops use social media to bag retail theft suspect – Tyrone Pinder of Burlington – suspect in a Burlington housing project trespass and resisting arrest case – has more troubles with the law, thanks to citizens watching social media.
On February 9, Berlin officers investigating a retail theft at TJ Maxx obtained surveillance video of the suspect. They posted a Facebook post and news media release with the suspect’s pictures asking for the public’s help in identifying him. He was identified by members of the public as Tyrone Pinder of Burlington.
Upon locating Pinder at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans – where he’s being held for the Decker Towers incident – on Feb. 22 he was cited to appear in court in April.
Fire victim identified – State police say Corinne Rainville, 77 of Strafford died in a fire at her home Thursday, February 15.
The fire was reported at 8 AM at the Rogers Road home. Upon arrival, responding fire crews found the building fully engulfed. Responding fire departments were advised of one occupant of the residence that was still inside. Rainville’s body was later found by firefighters and fire investigators.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is not believed to be suspicious.

just another day at the vermont zoo///
Four months for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. Well, I’m certain she learned her lesson, which is: I can defy the law and endanger lives with impunity.
Exactly. Disgraceful. Who owns the judges in VT.?
Funny how on Vermont Digger, it’s only the police that do anything, anything wrong in Vermont. It’s like two completely different states.
you’re right, Neil, Digger doesn’t do much crime reporting. Not sure why. I have a community newspaper mentality- crime is part of the news.
We all know why Digger does not do much crime reporting. They are a leftist mouthpiece and the crime that the leftists who run the State of Vermont openly enable makes them look bad. With Digger it’s: “nothing to see here folks, please move along”…see, here’s a nice story about a quilt festival and one about how we need to change the policy of requiring a note from home to use sunscreen at school…
Hey now, there’s a very valuable article on WCAX this morning entitled “Hardware Stores Keep Ahead of Cold Weather” 😂. The “service” this agency provides to keeping the community informed is top notch.
Where did this happen? One judge in Orleans county is terrible. Victims have no rights. I was unable to get a restraining order against Scott Toupin, a neighbor with a serious record, who has harassed and threatened me for over 5 years.
Poor Tyrone – he’s just another Vermont farm boy trying to make a living. Right, Rights & Democracy, VT? Correct, Lt. Governor Zucherman? BTW, wasn’t he supposed to be out with you & your group on your “book banning” tour?
NO FEAR, Zuckerman. NO FEAR. I’m originally from NY & my husband from ‘Da Bronx. You & your buddies wouldn’t last down there for a second.
