State Police are investigating a suspicious death after a woman’s body was found at a roadside pull-off along Route 14 in Woodbury on June 19.
The discovery was made around 3:30 p.m. Authorities have confirmed the death and are treating it as suspicious. The investigation involves the Vermont State Police Major Crime Unit, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the Crime Scene Search Team, the Field Force Division, and the Victim Services Unit. The body has been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to confirm the identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of relatives. Anyone with information is asked to call the Vermont State Police in Berlin at 802-229-9191 or submit an anonymous tip online.
Unlawful Trespass at Vermont Yankee
On June 18, at approximately 10:37 p.m., troopers responded to a report of unlawful trespass at the Vermont Yankee site located at 320 Governor Hunt Road in Vernon. The suspect, a heavy-set man with scruffy facial hair and medium-length hair, was seen inside a grey side-by-side with orange and black markings. Police are seeking help from the public to identify the individual. Tips can be directed to Trooper Galusha at the Westminster State Police Barracks.
The site, once the location of Vermont’s nuclear power plant, now is home to many large containers of radioactive spent fuel.
Felony Drug Arrests at Highgate Port of Entry
On June 20, at about 1:50 a.m., Vermont State Police responded to the Highgate Port of Entry after U.S. Customs & Border Protection officers detained two individuals found with significant amounts of narcotics. Seth Elgin, 54, of Needham, MA, and Ashly Paris, 43, of North Providence, RI, were charged with felony possession of cocaine and ecstasy, as well as possession of depressant, stimulant, and narcotic substances. Both were taken to the St. Albans State Police Barracks for processing before being lodged.
Stolen Items and Vehicles
State Police are investigating the theft of several items from a storage facility located at 8053 US Route 2 in Marshfield. The stolen property includes Milwaukee power tools, engine parts, extension cords, a portable jump starter, a car battery charger, a battery-powered air compressor, several sets of winter tires, four BFGoodrich tires, a trolling motor, and two depth finders. Additionally, a red 2021 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with a “LevoVince” aftermarket exhaust was taken from the site. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Trooper Morrow at the Berlin Barracks at (802) 229-9191 or to submit to the anonymous tip online.
Separately, State Police are also seeking information about the theft of a camper belonging to Cody McGill, 32, of Milton. The camper was stolen from a Park and Ride located on US Route 2 just south of Town Line Road in South Hero sometime between June 9 and June 14. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the St. Albans State Police Barracks at (802) 524-5993.
