This is the 150th Behind the Lines post since I started this page eighteen months ago at the beginning of the 2023-2024 legislative biennium. Thanks to everyone who has subscribed, shared, and grown the audience over the past year and a half, and welcome to many new subscribers who have joined in the last few weeks!

So, to celebrate 150 posts, and as we transition from legislative session to election season, I thought we’d have some fun and look back through some of the more popular BTL videos and give you all a chance to weigh in on who under the Golden Dome you think used their spotlight to make the biggest fool of themselves.

Cast your votes in the comments, which will be open to all subscribers (not just paid subscribers) for this post.

Here are the contestants!

1.    Peter Sterling, Executive Director of Renewable Energy Vermont, caught on a hot mic excitedly making reservations for a CO2 laden ski vacation to Chamonix, France, to celebrate passage of the Renewable Energy Standard bill.

2.    Sen. Becca White (D-Windsor) for her childish meltdown after learning she would only be allowed to vote herself a 43% pay raise (as opposed to the 100% plus benefits package Democrats passed the year before but was vetoed by Gov. Scott.)

3.    Sen. Chris Bray (D-Addison) who can’t explain how his own Clean Heat Carbon Tax bill works.

4.    The Entire Senate Natural Resources & Energy Committee for their rude and dismissive treatment of witnesses who disagree with them.

5.    Sen. Mark MacDonald (D-Orange) for his infamous, megalomaniacal, absurd and insensitive governing philosophy: “We don’t do things based on helping poor people. We do things based on saving the world.”

6.    Senate President Pro Tem Philip Baruth (D/P-Chittenden) for his disgraceful anti-small-“d”-Democratic rant ordering senators to ignore voters, the media on how to report, and threatening to de-platform Republican lawmakers who disagree with his agenda.

Look forward to seeing what you all think. Write-in candidates for the prize are also welcome! Winner will be announced next Friday.

  1. It looks like Chris Bray, especially if you can’t explain YOUR own bill

  2. Is it only me that wants presentation of a bill to test and publish the IQ of legislators? Opposition of such a bill would yield defacto results.

  3. You made this almost impossibly hard. They are all a bunch of self serving spineless, morons. Should I close my eyes and throw a dart ? Should I pick a straw ? Flip a coin ? How about if we put them all in a committee room, and tell them that they are not going to be paid, and the first one to say “I’ve had enough”, and runs out of the room wins ? The sad thing here is there are no winners, they are all losers, and as long as they keep getting elected, so are we !

  4. They are all equally deserving of the dunce award. Again, we must replace these dunces come November.

  5. Too many excellent choices. Did we really elect such incompetent, self centered, obnoxious, morons to ‘make’ our lives better? Are they the problem or are we, the people that elected them, the problem. One thing so simple everyone should understand and easily fix, if the batter is rotten, throw it all out and replace with a different batter. DUH!

  6. My vote goes to Phil Baruth for his declaration that all Democrats, including the media, will fall in line behind what he wants, not what Vermonters need…

  7. This is like trying to choose between stabbing yourself with an icepick or jumping off a tall building. These are the people running your lives. The Voters should all be required to watch these short videos. The voters should be ashamed of themselves except those of us that didn’t vote for any of them. I’d have to say they all qualify for the Dunce award and a special shout out to the lady senator with the diaper on her face apparently afraid to be in the same room with all those germ carriers.

  8. Becca White gets my vote. Not just for pay raise issue but also for her complete lack of humility. Having a bit of legislative experience is no substitute for life experience. She should pay some of her own bills for a few years before she saddles the rest of us with all kinds of things she thinks we should pay for.

    • I think legislators should be required to be 35 years old and a resident of Vermont 5 years before they can represent a district in the state. People with no skin in the game should not be allowed to make las for people who own home, have children, own a business etc.. I know it won’t happen, but it makes sense.

  9. Nah. The nitwit Cina dude from New Jersey who threatened to turn my relations into the I.R.S. They’re still hiding in their basement, so in other words —- one of them should be elected as President this November.

  10. Rob this is great! From my perspective they are all tied for first place. The factor that would determine a winner in my eyes is knowing if and which of these so called representatives of the people are accepting money to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development agenda. They all appear to be good candidates for those receiving funds from the United Nations Foundation via the U.S. Climate Alliance of which our governor is a member. If they are accepting funds from the United Nations this should be disclosed as receiving funds from a foreign national, as the UN is not subject to US laws.

If any of these so called representatives are receiving money to pay for staff members to write these bills, this explains why they do not understand how the policies they are implementing actually work and can’t explain them.

  11. 6. Senate President Pro Tem Philip Baruth (D/P-Chittenden) for his disgraceful anti-small-“d”-Democratic rant ordering senators to ignore voters, the media on how to report, and threatening to de-platform Republican lawmakers who disagree with his agenda.

He get my vote for ignoring the very same voters that put him where he is.

  12. vermont thirty senators/// six down, twenty four more to go/// you can start with the above list of clowns and add them to the list to go///

  13. Let’s just give ‘em all a “participation” award because they all put in such a gallant effort to screw Vermonters at every turn.. I have no doubt they’ll all be re-elected by the new Vermont populace.. what is the definition of insanity?

  14. The biggest collective dunce award goes to the typical Vermont voter who casts a vote for any democrat or progressive.

  15. Philip Baruth – One of the most annoying and unintelligent criminals to ever exist. His existence, along with almost all of the others, are a great insult to humanity.

If only the police would arrest and jail elected violent criminals when they blatantly violate the laws, we would have a chance at living in a lawful and peaceful society.

  16. Well, Vermont these are the inept clowns you vote in year after year, it’s hard to pick just one when you have a plethora of fools………………..

Wake up people, if you like the destruction of the state from debt and taxes then keep these fools in power……… pretty pathetic !!

  17. Rob Roper has managed to expose these Commiecrats using their own words – Brillant!

  18. Mark MacDonald, hands down.
I’ve never met anyone whose soul is as dark.
He’s a very lonely man methinks.

  19. In all fairness, they should all get a “paricipation award.” I don’t think they consider their legacy or reputation important these days and the results speak for themselves. As the agenda was written in stone (Georgia Guidestones), which were obliterated, it should be clear they have no choice but to double down and go all in. Now, the consequences of actions will commence in haste – the veil is thinning and full exposure is unfolding.
