….And – is it worth 30 cents a day?

by Guy Page
Our news stories last week illustrate what makes the Vermont Daily Chronicle stand out from the rest of the pack of Vermont news hounds.
1. Who else covers Vermont’s ever-growing crime and public safety problem without politically-correct omission of stories and photos others deem ‘too sensitive’ in the eyes of Vermont’s self-appointed, equity-minded media curators? Crime is crime, no matter who commits it. This reporting isn’t racial or gender ‘dog whistling.’ It proclaims to the rooftops that more than 100 Vermonters a month die of opioid overdoses, and our criminal justice system must not shy away from prosecution and incarceration based on gender or skin color.

2. Who else covers the transgender education mandates in a way that includes the perspective of concerned, objecting parents? Just last night one of the concerned Middlebury parents covered in this news story wrote in an online comment that the transgender unit in her child’s class was mandatory. No opt-out allowed. More on that subject to come. Here’s one of the two stories we published this week on this subject….

Of course I could go on and on. Planned Parenthood wants Vermont taxpayers to make up its $8.6 million deficit created by its own successful policy initiatives and management decisions. The School Education Blob that refuses to take the lead on budget-cutting our way out of our property tax crisis. Skyrocketing health insurance costs, with no consensus solution in sight. Etc. Etc. Etc.
If VDC is the honest mirror in which state policy makers can see how they appear to many Vermonters, then our Sustaining Subscribers are the people who raise the mirror to their faces. Without your support – just 30 cents a day – the mirror stays in the drawer – just where they like it.
If you support any/all of the coverage above but have not yet committed to your 2025 Sustaining Subscription, I ask you to take one of the following steps:
To contribute $9 monthly on a recurring basis, please click here.
To contribute $108 for one annual Sustaining Subscription, please click here.
To contribute $216 for two annual Sustaining Subscriptions, please click here.
Checks in any amount (suggested annual contribution of $108) may be mailed to: Vermont Daily Chronicle, P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier, Vermont, 05601. Your support is not tax-deductible.
I realize that this holiday season I have been pushing harder than ever for every appreciative reader (I hope this means YOU!) to join the growing team of Sustaining Subscribers. It’s not greed that motivates me. I am personally the lowest-paid editor in Vermont, I have no doubt. But my staff and our growing tech and software platforms are a different matter. They must be paid what the market will bear. Thank you in advance for joining the team.
Blessings,

Even more critical, nobody, nobody even comes close to the free speech and commentary allowed on this site. A wonderful gift to all Vermonters. Merry Christmas!
Keep up the good work and my 2025 donation will be in the mail next week.
Hey Guy,
Who else covers news as VDC does, by making up number to inflame its readers? I hope no one.
I didn’t have to get a half-dozen sentences into this piece to find a claim that Health Dept. data is very much at odds with. That data shows roughly 20 Vermonters die of opioid deaths in a month, not 100 as you state. Twenty is still too many.
Can you share data to support your claim of 100 opioid deaths in Vermont each month?
Here’s some more “data” for you…

If you think those in Montpelier give a rats’s ___ about the drug problems in Vermont you are sorely mistaken. Fight about the statistics, while people die, almost every day. We have one of the highest addicted birth rates in the nation. Nothing to see here, we have no problems……see there plan is working perfectly which is why the problems get worse instead of better.
People are enthralled with the beauty of Vermont, however, we’re like a hot mess supermodel, wonderful to look at, completely useless and very, very difficult to live with. We need a gal who’s willing to get water for the camels.
We need to wake up.
I seriously doubt there was any intention to inflame readers. The VT dashboard for opioid deaths recorded by the Health Department as of Dec. 11, 2024 can be seen here and the year to date total was 141.

Just subscribed for a year. It’s the only news source I have subscribed to in a very long time. Keep up the great work.
The check is in the mail.
