UVM states that it has no choice but to cut patient services. Really? Clearly, they haven’t really looked….how about some of the salaries that those in upper management pull in. Do they get bonuses as well? Perks? And if the care board thinks that the management is making such bad decisions and that the system is being run so badly…why isn’t someone losing their job? Why are they being kept on just to make more bad decisions? Not happening because it’s so much easier to pass the cuts off to the workers and patients. When have you ever heard of management taking a pay cut? Why weren’t these decisions brought to the public or the doctors, nurses and administrative staff, why was there was no discussion or input allowed from anyone? And the big question is….why will they not release the financial information behind the decision? Everyone is requesting it and management refuses to disclose it. Wonder where all the money is going…..actually, I wonder if management even knows. This organization grew so fast…gobbling up many of the clinics and hospitals in Vermont…I cannot help but feel that maybe they really don’t have a very good handle on the financials. I think the state needs to demand an audit immediately. And I think UVM should be required to operate with transparency. Just my opinion of course.
When the Federal government “shuts down” due to a budget impasse, the first things actually shut down are whatever is most visible to the public- and in a draconian way. UVMMC is doing no different as they maneuver around the GMCB.
Vermont’s legislature created this back in the 1990’s in their quest for single-payer healthcare- and state administered micro regulation of the industry. The legislature created the GMCB, to shield themselves from responsibility and blame as the system collapsed in mandated consolidation, medicaid reimbursement cuts and mandated increases in insurer coverages.
Remember jonathan gruber? shumlin’s messiah for Vermont’s healthcare woes? Years ago-“at a hearing to discuss the Vermont report, the Obamacare architect was confronted by a letter from a former state senator, who argued that “any Hsiao-Gruber type health care mega-system will inevitably lead to coercive mandates, ballooning costs, increased taxes, bureaucratic outrages, shabby facilities, disgruntled providers, long waiting lines, lower quality care, special interest nest-feathering, and destructive wage and price controls.” In response, Gruber wisecracked: “Was this written by my adolescent children?”” (Forbes, Dec 22 2014)
No, mr. gruber- it was correctly warned by a responsible adult. perhaps legislators of the era should have taken notice too.
Sounds like another way to kill off some more people as if the COVID KILL SHOT was not enough.
