  1. Swatting calls should be investigated and the perpetrator should receive a significant punishment for it-like going to a juvenile detention center for a couple of nights at least. Those calls cause a lot of problems for the school, police, parents and students. More importantly, everyone gets used to those calls and fire alarms and begins to ignore them. Watch next time you’re in a public building and a fire alarm goes off. Unless there is smoke or visible flames many people will shrug it off and stay in the building, especially in the winter. Now, if a kid is caught they bask in the spotlight for a few days and don’t have to worry about repercussions, they think that being an outlaw makes them cool. Most of those kids would find suspension from school a bonus so there is no punishment from the kid’s point of view. This is a serious offense and should be treated as such.

  2. Franklin County Sheriff should be found not guilty and another mistrial will not be in his best interests. Had i been on that jury i would have voted not guilty and jury would be finished, most likely with another mistrial. For the record i have never had any contact with this sheriff.

    • @Richard Day
Have you watched the video? What he did was uncalled for and used unnecessary force as the guy was handcuffed!
I disagree with you and would vote guilty.
For there to be 12 jurors and a hung jury is one thing, but now 12 more? No way. They need to stop this nonsensical hung jury crap and find the sherrif GUILTY and get this MISDEMEANOR charge over with! Doing nothing more than taking up court, money, and people’s time for a second time, now a possible third. It’s a ridiculous waste!

  3. No conclusion in the Franklin County Sheriff case. Stay tuned Monday for more of the dog and pony show. Hope the jury does not make this a full time job.

  4. Yes, i did watch the video TJ many times on TEL.///LIE.///VISION./// and will still vote not guilty.

  5. I’d like to respond hoping the author of the article “Proposal to close 2 elementary schools in central Vermont falls apart”, will see it. While I certainly understand why parents would want to keep their children in elementary schools in their hometown, and enjoy very low student to teacher ratio’s, in the long run, it doesn’t matter.
    Ouch.
But here is the deal, (would that I could insert a graph) in 1970 the population of ages 0-4 was 8.9% and in 2022, 4.3%
In 1970 the population of ages 5-19 was 30.6% and in 2022 was 16.5%….
While the overall population GREW from 1970 to 2022 by 45%, Vermonters are having less children. And now with the promotion of “gender affirming care” and “reproductive rights”, it is anticipated that we will experience a complete collapse of the populace.
So fixing school buildings and paying huge amounts to educate less than 20 kids in grammar school is just bad economics. No matter how you look at it, it sucks. I absolutely FEEL for these parents and kids. But facts are facts. And fiscal responsibility is very often unpleasant. I think school choice, as Mr. H. J. Eshelman has often pointed out here on VDC, would do wonders to fix a great deal of the issues our education is suffering under. But it still won’t solve the problem of LESS children in the system in the very near future and the redundancy and waste of small grammar schools with few students.
Might I suggest, pooling resources? Without actually combining schools? Say, have the kids all attend one school two days a week for specific classes and the other school for other classes. Or something equally innovative?
Just my two cents worth. I’m quite sure there are very creative and austere minded individuals out there with good ideas.
Or we could just start having lots more babies.

  6. Franklin County Sheriff trial has another mistrial. Now will we try for three strikes and find you not guilty. This Sheriff needs to get his law powers returned and he will be the most watched Sheriff in the state for any violations.
