Weinberger may be sincere in wanting to impose a tax increase specifically for police services, but the City Council will use their collective imagination as to what constitutes “public safety” in their eyes. That will no doubt include such things as full time syringe collection personnel and “safe” injections facilities.

Stowe is having a beaver dilemma ? This is precious ! According to VT Digger, “Stowe resident Brenna Galdenzi, founder of Protect Our Wildlife, said any management plan should get input from experts other than just state wildlife officials.” Like her ? “She added that trapping risks unintended consequences like other animals being caught or dogs in the area being injured. Are those “other” animals on leashes, as she, and her minions propose hounds should be ? That was a stupid question. Pluto and Goofy should be able to free range where ever they choose.

Unless there are specific leash laws in effect, why should they be? Vermont has a strong tradition (should “tradition” still remain such an imperative in the State of VT) of not wanting to restrain domestic companion animals via tether, but in having said animals under an owner’s voice control instead.
As far as continuing to utilize petty, juvenile remarks with regard to the subject of trapping which has been proven to be completely ineffective in controlling “overpopulation” as per numerous jurisdictions & studies – (see articles on total infectiveness of trapping as conducted by Ohio State University, Arlington, Texas government, and the American Humane Society among others) as well as the reality that trapping is considered inhumane & cruel by the vast majority of Vermont residents and US citizens – such unflagging archaic attitudes & actions along with like callow conversation has apparently been part of the imperative for the LCAR/Wildlife Advocacy Agencies now suing the Department of F & W. In addition, Legislative Bills H.191 and S.111 are being introduced into the House and in the Senate in ’24, whilst additional measures are being further considered based upon yet another case of a pet dog (unreported as of yet by VDC) named Sadie being SHOT and KILLED by a “trapper” just last November in VT. This trapper, a Mr. John Wehner, then allegedly provided false testimony to police investigators and is due in court at the end of January on charges of cruelty to animals.
Since approximately 70% of Americans own domestic mammals (primarily dogs & cats) as pets/companions/service animals/emotional support animals, I’d state that attempting to dismiss such relationships by caustically demeaning their fundamental importance to the majority, only furthers the cause for the apparent desperate need for legislative control under these circumstances.

“Burlington’s mayor is proposing a tax hike that he says is needed to cover increasing public safety needs”. I’m getting old, and my memory is not what it used to be, but it seems to me that the number of police officers at the BPD force was cut a few years ago, and not so coincidentally the crime rate rose. There was even one of their student council that questioned if police officers needed to carry firearms. Now after all this defunding craziness, and cutting “inexplicably” backfired, they want to raise taxes to pay to get things under control again ? I have a cheaper idea. Don’t elect stupid people to public office.
