Would be interesting to know more about the individuals who were terminated. What are they doing working at Jay Peak? Were they ski instructors? Because according to Wikipedia, the program is: “A J-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa issued by the United States to research scholars, professors and exchange visitors participating in programs that promote cultural exchange, especially to obtain medical or business training within the U.S. All applicants must meet eligibility criteria, English language requirements, and be sponsored either by a university, private sector or government program.
And then it would be interesting to note that these were validated entrants to the US. And just because Jay Peak terminated them doesn’t mean they will be leaving the country. For all we know, this was a planned activity to become terminated yet remain in the country. Or, they really could have been at a “costume party”. Well, it is possible although unlikely.

Regarding the article by VTDigger about the “unhoused” being counted: it absolutely ignores the fact that a great many of these “unhoused” people are not from Vermont until recently, as in the voucher program in 2020. Where were they before they came here? Were they “unhoused” in NH? MA? CT? NY? Or further afield? Why is it the citizens of Vermont who are responsible for getting these people housing? If they really wanted housing, there are a lot of programs that help people get back on their feet. But if they are still “unhoused” four years later, then is it really what they want? To be “back on their feet”? Or do they just want to avoid dealing with reality and the hard work that comes with that? Just curious.
I’ve said it many times here on VDC. Find out and solve how they became homeless, and the problem will fix itself. The problem isn’t that they don’t have a home or shelter. The problem is SOMETHING else. You have to fix that, or you still have a problem. Why no one seems to get this at the administrative level is beyond me.

Pam: Keep this in mind. While Vermont has the highest per-capita homelessness of any State in the U.S., it also spends more per-capita on homeless subsidies than any State in the U.S.
That should explain our circumstance well enough.
