I didn’t know about this tree-tapping ceremony; thanks for the link.
SUGARING
By Ellin Anderson
The first spring weather (which we do not see)
Is felt within the first bellwether tree
To wake with stirring sap that says, “We live,”
And then a million trees begin to give.
A drop like sweet and finely crafted rain,
And then a flood of thoughtful drops will drain
The still and silent groves in melting snow;
Sun shines, moon freezes — nothing stops the flow.
In sugarhouses, neat and snug and red
As maple leaves in bud, the flames are fed
Until March days grow soft and warm and bright —
In spring, all creatures profit from the light,
And by the time each emerald flag’s unfurled,
With drop by drop, we’ve sugared all the world.
Scott is hoping Vermont sells a lot of maple syrup to make up for all the money he is not going to get from Trump because of Vermont’s woke policies.
Thank you, Ellin Anderson, for your sweet poem!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it.
