Regarding the accident on 89, so far, the plowing seems a bit off this year, even by recent standards. Rt 100 was absolutely untouched at 6AM during the storm on the 26-27th that knocked out power for a couple days here. Very wet and icy snow. Driver beware. These ain’t the well-plowed Vermont roads of yore.

S. Lowry, I’m fine with that. I’ve never been OK with VT’s new “unofficial” bare roads policy. Back in the day (and I’m not that old) I remember when they plowed the roads and maybe sanded, numerous of the less used roads (paved) were actually covered with a layer of hard packed sanded snow all winter. People knew how to drive in snow, had good snow tires and actually had cars that were far less capable in terms of handling and design (front wheel and all wheel drive were not as common). We use way too much salt now, bad for cars, soil and water.
