Timely help prevents worse outcome, police say

An officer of the Burlington Police Department was severely punched in the head at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street at about 1:30 in the morning on Friday, July 26. He may have suffered a concussion.
The assaulted officer was out along with a female Community Service Officer – which is an unarmed officer – as they were on foot patrol together.
The man they encountered was Michael Gbenusola, 41. He was initially observed leaning against a wall on the north side of Main Street. Both officers were in uniform and near a fully marked police car.
The release notes why it is important that officers be on street patrol especially late on a busy Friday night. It states, “Performing foot patrol and standing post at this site is a key lawful duty for police officers, given the fact that violence and disorder have been recurring concerns at the location and at this time of day (i.e., weekend bar closing).”
The officers then saw Gbenusola walking south on Church Street, He is described as “yelling at nobody in particular, stating in sum and substance ‘these [racial epithets] have nothing on me, they ain’t [expletive].’”
The release continues that Gbenusola “approached the police officer aggressively, pounding his own chest with both fists.”
The officer then asked if the man was OK. Then came the violent attack.
“Gbenusola responded with profanity and then, unprovoked and without hesitation, violently punched the officer in the head/face with such force that it physically injured the officer and knocked him backwards,” the report states.
Witnesses including the woman CSO and a nearby male CSO as well as a security camera saw Gbenusola “aggressively pursuing the officer” as he was evading the assault. The officer gave a strong verbal command that Gbenusola stop, which he ignored and postured to strike again the officer again.
Despite the dramatic blow, the officer was still able to draw his taser and use it to stop the next attack. However, it did not “create the neuromuscular incapacitation, or bodily lockup, that a fully effective CEW deployment can create” meaning the man was still able to move and was potentially still dangerous.
Then timely armed help arrived. The release continues, “Fortunately additional officers quickly arrived on scene.” They were able to prevent Mr. Gbenusola from continuing his assault. The officer “had suffered a significant head injury with signs of concussion.”
The officer was transported to UVM Medical Center where he was evaluated for “possible traumatic brain injury.”
Police noted the video may be available, VDC may add it once it is obtained.
Multiple failures to appear in court
As is often the case in Chittenden Couty, when Gbenusola’s record was looked up it was revealed that he has a lengthy record. This includes three failures to appear in court, six violations of conditions of release or court orders, and six felony charges, one resulting in a conviction.
There are another two assaultive crime charges, one of them resulting in a conviction.
The report concludes, “Mr. Gbenusola has an extensive history of violence in Vermont and a criminal history out of New York. Mr. Gbenusola was lodged at Northwest Correctional Facility and held without bail.”
This news comes after a Burlington Police report recently highlighted that 93% of those who have violated a conditions of release order under Chittenden County State’s Attorney Sarah George have been released.
The same report noted that the department continues to struggle with dealing with record rates of crime with just about half the officers the department typically has had through most of the previous decade.

Certain government officials must hate the police and ordinary citizens. To allow such a violent criminal out in public cannot be the action of sane government officials. To have such a little regard for public safety, the officials must despise us to allow this violent person to walk among us. I bet there are dozens more just like this criminal, walking among us.
I feel so sorry for the policeman in that picture. The bang on his head must have been a hard to affect his hairline like that.

The voters of Burlington who maintain the “gaggle of fools” comprising Mayor Emma-Hyphen and the council in office deserve what they get. The voters of Chittenden County have had several opportunities to be rid of State’s Attorney George but apparently are fine with her “progressive” law enforcement. What vile potion is the Champlain Water District putting in the water to make a majority of people act this way? Liberalism is a mental disorder.

A .45 cal round would create the neuromuscular incapacitation needed.
Unfortunately, Burlington PD officers are understandably afraid to use adequate force in a situation such as this due to the obvious social and liability consequences of operating in a dystopian, socialist jurisdiction with a Soros-supported prosecutor in office. If the taser is used and found to be ineffective, common sense in the real world dictates that for the safety of the officers and the general public, Mr. Glock should be the next tool to be deployed against this obviously deadly threat. Unfortunately, the People’s Republic of Burlington is NOT part of the real world. An angry miscreant such as Mr. Gbenusola, being an obviously fit, young male who INITIATED THE ASSAULT against a uniformed officer IS presenting an imminent threat of deadly force, and certainly justifies a lethal response…in the real world…but not in Burlington.
According to the Queen City Overlords, the officer is supposed to cease his aggressive defense and lay on the ground to be beat to death by this savage uncivilized thug. What if the savage turned his aggression onto the unarmed community service officer with injury or death resulting? That female CSO should quit because the city council has put her life in danger. But they feel good about their woke community ignorance as a way to run the city!
Burlington is a shining example of how NOT to run a city.. Progressive policies created this hell hole but I have a feeling voters will again stick their heads in the sand and vote these fools back in.. WTH is this guy out on the street?! Liberal prosecutors need to be called out for these f-ups! If this were a white Trump supporter he’d have been behind bars already!
Brian (who conveniently removed the reply icon) the crazed criminal should have been AT LEAST tased, if not shot, PRIOR to the “first” attack. Either that, or the great unarmed CSO’s (lol) should have pummeled him into total submission through bare fisticuffs whilst simultaneously reinforcing his victimhood, informing him where he can retain drug paraphernalia, and recommending precisely how to go about suing the state of VT for damages.

Extension of Remarks of Honorable A.S. HERLONG, Jr. of Florida in the House of Representatives Thursday, 10 January 1963
Mr. HERLONG: Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Florida is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.
At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist” by Cleon Skousen:
1. US acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
2. US willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items
could be used for war.
5. Extension of long term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.
7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the UN.
8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the
Germany question by free elections under supervision of the UN.
9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the US has agreed to suspend tests as long as
negotiations are in progress.
10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the UN.
11. Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
14. Continue giving Russia access to the US Patent Office.
15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate
civil rights.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda.
Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist
attack.
20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book review assignments, editorial writing and policy making positions.
21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures.
22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist
cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and
meaningless forms.”
23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive meaningless art.”
24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and
free press.
25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines,
motion pictures, radio and TV.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural and healthy.”
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the grounds that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.
32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture, education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.
33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus. 34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems
as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.
39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over
those who oppose Communist goals.
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices,
mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition;
that students and special interest groups should rise up and use “united force“ to solve economic, political
or social problems.
43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self government.
44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the US cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction
over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.
Any or All of these seem familiar?
Remember when voting in the 2024 Presidential Election that Kamala Harris was one of the loudest proponents of “Defund the Police”. Like many of the current Vermont progressives, she is an intellectual lightweight who fails to consider the ramifications of simplistic solutions for anything they perceive as a problem. They only succeed in creating real problems like those in this report; a known criminal on the loose and ineffective policing.
What good is partnering with an unarmed CSO if she can’t back up the partnership in a situation like this? Especially when patrolling in a known dangerous area? It’s fortunate there were other police in the area. Another blow to the head may have killed the officer.
Hey Mayor Emma-Hyphen, keep those programs, benefits, free housing and lack of basic law enforcement coming and you will attract more delightful folks like Mr. Gbenusola to your fair city…the voters who put her in office are obviously in favor of a “vibrant” marketplace…
A friend had an overgrown dooryard invested with ticks. By nature, the tip of most weeds and grass had a tick poised to latch onto a host. Creative thinking, the friend closely mowed the yard except for a a couple, narrow, grass strips. A few days later, those strips were swarming with hundreds, maybe thousands of ticks. Being the clever type, he enlisted a heavy duty, commercial, weed burner to easily incinerate the pests. Proved amazingly effective. Mayor Emma-Hyphen’s social engineering has made Burlington Vermont’s narrow grass strip.
Just shoot them-a menace to society and a waste of oxygen.
This is what the democrats want Burlington to be. I do not live there, so I do not care if they want to defecate where they eat and sleep, I do not.
Dogs don’t even engage in that behavior. So, what does that tell you about the city councilors?
The video of this attack should be viewed by everyone in Vermont as an example pf what is wrong with progressive ideology. Years ago this thug would have been knocked down, cuffed and taken to jail. But now they ate allowed to roam the streets of burlington freely.
There are drugs available to inject into a person causing symptoms of a heart attack without being detected. A corner’s exam couldn’t find the chemical or where injected. They mainly look for other causes, artery probs??
