I returned to the streets of Burlington Monday to speak with Bill Oetjen, Republican candidate for Burlington School Commission, Ward 7.
A former Progressive turned vice chair of the Burlington Republican Party, Oetjen shares his experience as a Burlington substitute teacher and former progressive activist. Bill moved to Burlington in the 1980’s because he was attracted to the socialist movement spearheaded by a Brooklyn-born guy who was making headlines across the country. He now says, the “progressive” policies were a mistake.
In particular, Oetjen is concerned that students are not being held accountable for misbehavior. Students treat “restorative circles” in which the presumed offender is confronted by the victim and some peers and adults, like a joke, he explains.
He also calls out the Progressive left as an echo chamber that refused to address – in fact vehemently opposed any discus- what Oetjen calls “the colonization of women’s sports.”
Burlington will hold mayoral, school board and city council elections next Tuesday, March 5.

I would be more concerned about a sheep in wolf’s clothing. Too many on the left are pretending to switch sides to get elected and ensure complete control (not like that’s really needed in Chittenden County. The voice of reason is extinct.)
Ha. No one would pretend to be a Republican in Burlington to get elected. That’s how you would guarantee not to be elected. These people would not elect a Republican if he or she descended from the heavens with a shining halo atop their head. Their psychopathic virtue would not allow it.
Robert, one tactic is to run as a Republican in order to sabotage the republican Party.

Give the guy a chance. A progressive who has seen the hell of progressivism, repented and converted to something approximating sanity is someone you want on your side.
Chances are that most of his acquaintances are of the progressive bent and his otherwise-propagandized audience may now hear the solid, objective reasoning for his “conversion”. Too many leftists just go with the politically correct lock step of what is fashionable and do not analyze the issues unless they hear from one of their own. It used to be said that a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged. It’s not just mugged anymore…it’s having your neighborhood spoiled by feces and needles left by urban campers and having to wait for a store clerk to unlock the toothpaste that can get under anyone’s skin.
He talks the talk, but being a progressive shows the inability to connect the dots. Too many progressives have gotten elected as republicans that were not (RINOS). Romney, McConnell, Ryan, McCarthy, Bacon, All those not seeking reelection. And he could be just taking a GOP slot to make sure the seat goes to a ‘progressive’. However, VT and its cities are so far gone, us republicans are better off leaving while we still have some wealth.
Bernie tried the same thing when he wanted to be governor, after Snelling died he started to go republican but Vermont had open eyes back then and wouldn’t back him so he went independent and split the ticket. Guaranteeing we would end up with Madeleine Kunin. This guy will probably pull the same thing. Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it.
Burlington fudged the numbers on the tear-down of the high school, too. That is why they tore the building down so fast, so that a second opinion couldn’t be obtained before moving forward with a $250,000,000 rebuild. Paid for by tax payers from all across the state.
It’s all about the money. Oh, and guaranteed retirement accounts that are now on the tax payer (slaves) back.
I hope that Mr. page will run this: Other than the fact that I was forced to move to VT under duress. I was treated murderously by the extended medical/welfare system. Literally murderously. I blamed our form of govt.
My former groomer, Mar**a Br**n, told me a different version of why Mr. Oetjen’s vehicle was vandalized. That version was not more justifiable. Mr. Oetjen, supposedly, hade a “transphobic” bumper sticker on his vehicle. This was before I realized the actual agendas of “woke”.
Welcome to the real world, Mr. O. Taking responsibility for your actions has been replaced by a generation who was told they were “special” and it is always someone else’s fault. What a crock. The left/Dems want to throw money at everything instead of commonsense and tell us everybody is equal. We are not.
BYW, I am sick of providing for all these people/druggies. They know they are doing this to themselves. Try jail and cold turkey and see how they will stop!
