Roving videoblogger Peter Santenello returns to Burlington, the city he was born in and had his first big job. What he found dismayed him and likely many of the one-million-plus viewers who have watched “The Ruined My Hometown” since it dropped two days ago.

Yes, Burlington the Queen City has become a cesspool, and it’s all because of liberal nonsense………………
All major businesses are gone, and those small businesses are hanging on by a thread due to the crime, the drugs, and the homelessness holding the city hostage with more liberal nonsense and feel-good policies.
Take a tour of Burlington, you’ll be shocked by what you see…… Pretty Pathetic !!
Born and educated 72 yrs ago in Big Burl, as we used to call it. I left 30 years ago for So Hero, as the decline was already on it’s way. For those of you who remember, Bernie Sanders arrived and defeated Mayor Gordon Paquette, who was considered “too close” to his cronies; what a joke that is compared to today’s Progressive Party. The decline of “business friendly Burlington “ began by Sanders and his cronies pushing The Lane Press out, and the momentum continued all the way to defunding the police. I can’t even go to the city that I used to love and had such a great experience growing up in with all my friends in the North End. Though hath no Shame!
My wife and I used to visit Burlington once or twice per year, but no longer. Watch the video if you want to know why. The progressives and their sanctuary city has ruined a beautiful town.
Should never have let those college students vote unless they are permanent residents, not just kids with a sick sense of humor that are just passing through and do not care what chaos they will leave behind.
This is such a good video, it is long but worth it. Burlington City Officials need to take some notes from him. The problems won’t go away if they keep enabling them.
Took the time to watch the complete video. Burlington will become Vermont little New York City. Much is going on in NYC and moving into Vermont.
It’s all part of Obama’s (and Biden/Harris’) fundamental transformation of America…
“How could we ever solve this??”
Uh, how about just enforcing existing laws, from arrest through prosecution through incarceration? Just a thought. 🤦
Looks like my hometown of Elizabeth, NJ… Congrats BVT!
How simple is the fix. Get rid of all elected democrats and replace them with republicans and start to live well again!!
Sad situation. Used to love going to Burlington. I stay as far away from it as I can. Single party politics and an incompetent (impotent) Governor from the “other” party.
This is the business plan. He mentions the “homeless economy” that makes a small number of people extremely rich on the back the misfortunes of others.
The same can be said of the “drug rehabilitation economy”.
Take those federal incentives away and the laws will be enforced quickly.
Sadly enough it’s worst than he can document in a 2 hour video .
Still an Excellent job , problems go deeper than is easily comprehended.
Pray for our nation.
I moved here in 1989 after my son left UVM. I have seen the deterioration of Burlington since the city council (8-10 yrs ago)became a “woke “progressive group of representatives. The decision to allow students, here for four years and gone, vote in our city elections is a bad idea. They help to frame our taxes and then leave the state while voting for pie in sky, liberal policies with no accountability for actions. I give up as intelligent citizens keep voting for the same old thing and then complain. This is just a reflection of the current inept policies of the Democratic party.
Ruined by S George ,Weinburger. Burlington was a cool city.It is now a dangerous cess pool .Will never go again .Was that the goal leaders ?
Unfortunately the video laughingly included the claims of a guy who owns a pot dispensary complaining about drug use downtown.
You heard that right – a transplant from New York who sells pot in Burlington and is a self-admitted “reformed” drug addict complaining about drugs ruining the city where he’s selling drugs.
Can’t make it up folks.
The question is why did the guy who made the video include interviewing a pot seller complaining about crime downtown?
To be fair, the open use of cannabis in public spaces, and by those under 21 is prohibited by state law, as is the open consumption of alcohol banned by a Burlington ordinance. The fact that you can purchase either of those products legally is a separate issue, but it is good that you point out the irony.
Don’t be a Karen. Alcohol is way more damaging than a plant and you don’t seem concerned about that. Cannabis was made illegal because it promotes strange ideas. Strange ideas are a threat to the power structure. Making relatively harmless, but popular things illegal, also generate endless funds and power to the power structure.
Now they put the strange ideas right into the curriculum so we all live in la la make believe feelings land and it’s no longer as much of a threat.
Drugs that are most damaging to society come from the doctor’s prescriptions, followed by alcohol, then street versions of drugs that the CIA brings in for people that grew up on doctor’s prescriptions since age 5, and can no longer handle existing with their own brains. Cannabis is not causing Burlington’s issues. New Yorkers, probably.
@tedcohen1
Possibly because he is reformed and wants better. Legally selling marijuana is not shooting up heroin. Big difference!
Like King Midas everything the Commiecrat Progressives touch turns to crap.
“The enemy is already here”. – Dan Bongino
A constant grasp for the obvious. Here are a few clues:
The Hill – May 2018: “Vermont Gov. Phil Scott (R) has signed a bill into law that will pay people $10,000 if they move to the state and work for an out-of-state employer remotely.
The bill, which is scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2019, has budgeted grants for nearly 100 new remote workers in the first three years of the program, and 20 more workers per year for every year afterward.
Under the terms of bill, a new remote worker may be eligible for a grant under the program “for qualifying remote worker expenses in the amount of not more than $5,000.00 per year, not to exceed a total of $10,000.00 per individual new remote worker over the life of the program.”
Remote worker expenses that qualify for the grant include the purchase of computer software and hardware, broadband access or upgrade, and membership in a co-working or similar space.”
United Way of Northeast Kingdom-December 2022: “In Vermont, our nonprofit sector employs about 69,000 jobs which translates to 1 in 7 workers. We contribute about $5.7 billion per year to the economy through wages paid, retail and wholesale purchases and professional service contracts. Understanding how our sector is changing is an essential step in planning for what comes next for nonprofits, our people, and our communities,” says Morgan Webster, director of Common Good Vermont.
As nonprofit leaders are increasingly recognizing the opportunity—and responsibility—to align conversations around compensation with their organizational values, this year’s report includes new data on equitable hiring practices. Additionally, in these uncertain times, new data on short-term changes to our workforce and shifts in remote work will help organizations plan strategically for the future.”
A grifters paradise indeed! All the NGOs and non-profits create the welfare industry they all feed off. They do not fix the problems because they would no longer exist. The circle jerk between our grubberment and the welfare industrial complex. The goal is to to keep the populace poor, inebriated, barely educated, disabled, and woefully ignorant. The biggest lie of this scam – they say they contribute $5.7 billion a year to the State economy? So, why is our cost of living increasing expeditionally, our infrastructure a mess, and State budgets ballooning a billion or more a year? Certainly not trickle down economics! It’s thievery through taxation without representation. Also take note that a majority of the members of the countless boards, commissions and task forces are all connected to (in-laws and outlaws) to keep the giant grift moving in their favor – never in ours.
Trickle down in a free market goes to the free people.
Trickle down in a good ole boy network, socialist network, marxist network, communist network, Vermont network goes those whom carry water for their masters. In Vermont case the lobbyists and NGO’s and Non-profits do the bidding and get the ” trickle down”.
Animal farm had it right, some pigs are more equal than others. in a rigged economy, those doing the rigging get the spoils. marxism is inherently a rigged economy.
Which is why some are prospering in Vermont, and it’s not the free people of Vermont.
Born and raised in Burlington but left long ago for the rural areas of northern VT. There is nothing left in Burlington that brings me there, other than some family members still hanging on to what was once a beautiful city – however it won’t be long before the taxes drive them out. Burlington will just become the “inner city ghetto” of Vermont. Think it’s bad now? Wait until they put in the “safe injection site”.
BLM – Antifa – Community Organizer – Cultural Marxism all working on the same goal, subversion of a perfectly good republic, through the works and practice of Saul Alinsky manual Rules for Radicals.
You can throw in RINO’s and VTDem party…at least 80% knowingly or being useful idiots, the later term is a used by those military operations for the professors and prideful people who are unwittingly doing the business.
Here is another video that “somehow” predicts everything perfectly from 30 years ago, how does “tell the future”, because it was all planned out for anyone to see or read if inclined. They are following a plan.

The Take Back Vermont crowd was not wrong, they understood that our state has been taken over, we’re really a training ground for marxist shills, Burlington being the leader…and the video explains everything so far pretty well.
Sun Tzu the Art of War is a pretty good study for tactics being used against us, the highest form of war, is winning over a state without firing a shot. Britian politely brought China to it’s knees with the opium wars in the 1850’s, took a 100 years to bring back the nation. How do you think all the drugs from China are coming through Mexico and to Vermont?
Thankfully the solution is easy, quick and simple, we all need to just change direction. Isn’t it interesting how everyone is terrified to even say or do anything? Cancel culture and propaganda are very, very powerful tools in Vermont.
All should read Sun Tzu. I think you would like “The Fourth Turning” by William Strauss and Neil Howe. I first read them when introduced at the Naval Postgraduate School decades ago. Or cut to the chase and read the 2023 update by Howe, called the “Fourth Turning is Here”.
Thanks for the reading recommendation, I’ve heard abit about the book. Thanks!

So, in the above video Yuri gives an answer to our Vermont problem, when I first saw it 10 years ago, didn’t really understand it, but do now.
Nature abhors a vacuum, it is filled with something, so when you take out the foundation of western civilization from the public mindset, you get fertile ground for new ideas. This was done in communist china openly and to great effect, out with the 3 olds, in with the new. Vermont is dealing with this on a more subtle, more “sophisticated” fashion. Remember “Hope and Change”, the fundamental change in America, they left out what they were going to change it to. Not by mistake.
And they give more subtle hints now, “Build Back Better” and united nations term, not a Dem party term for a one world government, where you will own nothing and be happy. And on this they leave out, who is going to own everything? Them.
When the educational programs are designed to change the way our children and then adults think, you’ve subverted a population. Who would have thought you confuse an entire populace of their sexuality, yet here we are, evil geniuses some of the are, surely.
And where is the truth? Where is the love? Keep searching and you will find. We only have to change our direction in Vermont, all our problems are man made.
After you watch this video about the ruination of Burlington, PLEASE take the time to watch Pete’s video on Kensington, Pa right outside of Philly. You will see what can easily happen to Burlington with it’s approval of a safe injection site. It is a slippery slope and the results are disgusting, devasting and cruel. Anyone in our legislature who voted in favor of safe injection sites need to be voted out!! It shows a clear lack of commonsense , no understanding of effective drug treatments and a total disregard to the data relating to drug rehabilitation. (Senator Rich Westman, of Lamoille county is one of those who voted in favor of this. yet another reason to vote him out.) My husband and I have been a fan of Pete Santenello for quite some time. His videos are always a good watch!
Great video. Just remember none of this is happening by accident. The people who run things and control the purse strings are doing this intentionally with highly malicious intent.
Was downtown last Friday and was leaving the church street parking garage at 10 when a gang of 10+ people on motorbikes cruised through the whole thing making a god awful racket. The whole town of Burlington reeks of lawlessness and decay. What a sad place.
Yes ,all intentional !

Skippy nailed it: As long as college kids are allowed to vote the progs will continue. People are always saying “Burlington gets what they vote for..” but they neglect to mention the masses of indoctrinated youths pulling the lever in Burlington who are only visitors. End that madness and there’s a chance the tide will turn.
I was born and raised in Burlington and lived there 54 years. It’s not the Burlington of my childhood and never will be again. We left in August of this year and it was the best thing we have done. Good bye to all the bleeding heart liberal b.s.
The downward spiral of Burlington Vt started with Bernie Sanders.
The demise and deterioration of Burlington both physically and morally have are chronicled as feature articles in both the New York Post and FoxNews outlets, while pointing out the Left’s agenda as the root cause. A good read…
