Serious violence continues in Vermont’s largest city with a vicious attempted homicide of a woman with multiple knife wounds in Downtown Burlington and unrelated aggravated assault with a gun by the traffic rotary on Shelburne Road.

Burlington Police were initially vague, including in a preliminary news release, by saying they were investigating a “suspicious event,” and one person was in custody on Greene Street about 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Eight hours later Burlington Police in an updated news release finally admitted the “suspicious event” actually was an attempted homicide.  A woman had been stabbed multiple times, her throat slashed and she was left for dead in a residence, police said.

Police, who said in the initial news release at 1:30 p.m. that the suspect had been taken into custody when officers responded, added in the updated release that the apprehension was outside the residence while the man was apologizing for stabbing the woman and slashing her throat.

Responding officers found Kevin J. Calero-Alvarez, 30, of Burlington, standing outside the residence shirtless, crying hysterically and yelling various things to include “sorry,” police said in the evening news release.

The officers made an emergency entry into the residence and located the woman, laying on a bed crying, with several stab wounds to her torso, arms and neck, Detective Lt. Mike Beliveau said.

While her name is public record under the law, Burlington Police were withholding her identity.

Vermont News First has learned a preliminary identification of Rosa Ivana Nunez, 40, from Nicaragua and an employee at UVM food service.

First aid was provided to Nunez at 4 Greene St. until the Burlington Fire Department arrived and took over emergency medical treatment.

The woman was transported to the UVM Medical Center where she is in serious condition, officials said.

Police said Calero-Alvarez placed a second woman – who also was not named –  in fear for her life when he assaulted her while holding a knife within the residence.

Police shut down vehicle and pedestrian traffic for several hours on Greene Street, near Pearl Street, just east of North Union Street.

  1. Who’s selling book on this Mexican being here legally?
One more time, being a sanctuary city has so enriched BTV.

  2. At the risk of being called the “r” word, I want to make clear that many cultures have a very different view of women’s rights and humanity than the predominant way we think in the US, Canada, western Europe and Australia. In the name of “celebrating diversity” we have welcomed people into our midst who were raised to regard women as second class citizens or even property. That is NOTHING to celebrate. Diversity by it’s definition can bring on both good and bad, since it is just a roll of the dice. When we live in a society that predominantly treats women as equal citizens and then we roll the diversity dice, women will always suffer. There, I said it.

    • Since your descriptions of other culture’s misogynistic treatment of females are nothing but totally accurate, I’m proud to call myself a “racist”.

Female genital mutilation, lawful sexual assaults & brutal beatings, demanding women cannot go out in public without a male escort & forcibly being covered from head to toe, sex shaming, rampant sexual harassment, females being denied an education, etc. etc. – are all common and legal in countries and cultures all around the world; many of them lauded by the crazed left or at the very least tolerated by first world nations.

Only days ago, female Olympian runner Rebecca Cheptegei was burned to death by her boyfriend and her father made a public statement that the murderer was still walking free with police not making any effort towards arrest.

If condemning these murderous and outrageous practices constitutes my being racist, so be it. I am a racist!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop the sickening attacks & human rights violations against females NOW!!! Speaking of N.O.W……..where you be???????????

  3. So why do we do ” vetting ” of migrants, well let’s see, it means making sure each unknown migrant isn’t a known terrorist, doesn’t have a criminal record, contagious disease, or prior immigration violation like border jumping ?????

So what vetting was done on Kevin Calero-Alvarez, I bet nothing, as he was probably
on the ” Biden Open Border Policy “, a free bus ride to anywhere, I guess we were just lucky to have this piece of work land in Vermont, but then again we are known for our
progressive policies in Burlington, you reap what you sow !!

He was probably just having a bad day………………………

  4. He’s just part of one of those large friendly groups that we can’t say by name.

    Too Funny.

Gangs….I said it, cancel me, throw me in jail. Vermont is inundated with gangs and we aren’t even allowed to say it. Perhaps its raaaccciiiissst?

    Cancel this.

  5. Why don’t I see as much of this activity in Plattsburgh? It’s just across the lake. Am I missing something?

  6. “The enemy is already here”. – Dan Bongino
And the enemy is alive and well and legislating in Montpelier.

  7. Reminder, be sure to copy and paste all gruesome headlines into an email and send to the “representatives” and “elected officials” of these communities. They need to be rewarded and cited bigly for their policies and leadership. Let them know the impact of their policies responsible for the human carnage in our once decent, livable, managable State. Don’t expect a reply, just do it, every day because every day the criminality is esculating on their watch.

Here is a question no one will answer: How much money and resources spent for the two illegals – one with hospitalization and one with incarceration? Anyone want to guess who pays for their care and custody? Anyone want to take a guess at the total bill for both? These are only two of many. Doesn’t it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to go to work, labor for your pittance, and pay for all the criminality of human trafficking in your community? Make it make sense…..

    • Ah, Melissa, that would be like sending them a congratulations card saying all that you are doing is working perfectly as planned.

There are those who know, and those who are doing their work, filled with so much pride the concept of them being wrong would be akin to saying the sun isn’t going to rise the next day. They are legends in their own minds, they are essentially Gods…..please; they ask that you fall in line, bow down to the all-powerful administrators and administrative state, they ask for this in the name of their idol Karl Marx…..Saul Alinsky, who are minions for the ultimate rabble rouser, their words no mine.

Having been to the state house in person, sent letters, sent emails, been to the meetings, I can assure you they could care less.

If seasoned, reasonable arguments with excellent intelligent people making a difference by coming to Montpelier, we’d never have had any gun law changes, that I can assure you.

We are a mere annoyance they have to deal with, but want our money, for sure.

Now, if 112,704 Vermonters said, you know what, I’m not going to pay my taxes immediately, I’m going to wait 6 months, I’ll pay the penalty…..but make them wait.

Now, THAT might get their attention.

    • I agree with you Neil – yet, applying maximum pressure may just blow a valve or two wide open…if you pick up what I’m laying down. We are in a time where they are accelerating their EV putty-putt clown cars to force compitulation – the intelligent people need to fire up the diesel rigs and throw down the stick into four-wheel overdrive – no surrender and no retreat…it is that time. We are the bosses of them – not the other way around – that is what is missing and it’s high time we fire them all and start over.

  8. Bernie Sanders Socialist Utopia has been achieved in Burlington and most of Vermont.
