Vermont’s social media was abuzz with impassioned reactions to the failed assassination attempt of former President Trump. The responses have been almost exclusively from the state’s minority of conservative voices, with reactions from the large majority of left-wing voices mostly absent.
Vermont GOP chair Paul Dame said this event is only going to strengthen the resolve of the Republican party for the November election.
“Most Republicans I know are just looking for fair & equal treatment in the press. I believe if that happens Republicans will win big this November up and down the ballot,” he wrote.
Brady Toensing, a DC-based lawyer and former Vermont GOP Vice-Chair, reposted another comment indicating that there is a strong urge for accountability. He reposted an impassioned comment by @laralogan stating, “Everyone who betrayed Trump & is now making some bullshit statement can also fuck right off. We are not deceived. Accountability is coming assholes.”
Christopher-Aaron Felker who is chairman of the Burlington GOP is doubling down on his support for the former president.
“All In. It’s time for us to Make America Great Again,” he wrote.
Vermont Citizen Media did many posts regarding the assassination attempt. Including this person wrote, “Democrats are the party of #PoliticalViolence”. He also reposted a statement by U.S. Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt, which failed to call the event an assassination attempt.
VtMediaHaven wrote about the same post from Balint, pointing out, “Why did it take 15 hours to issue this statement?”
Vermont Native wrote more about the contradictions illustrated by this attack. This person wrote, “Bernie Sanders says Trump is the most dangerous man, must keep him from the presidency

”
Jeremy Reed of Vermont reposted a comment from former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, which also addressed the issue of contradicting rhetoric about violence and threats.
“The Democrats have to stop their grossly irresponsible talk about Trump being an existential threat to democracy. He is not.” Barr wrote.
@VTLady3 declared she’s not open to any sympathy from across the political aisle. She wrote, “I don’t accept empty well wishes and condolences from the left! Do you???”
There has been some limited response from voices from Vermont’s political left. Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman retweeted a post from U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, stating, “Political violence is absolutely unacceptable. I wish Donald Trump, and anyone else who may have been hurt, a speedy recovery.”

“The Democrats have to stop their grossly irresponsible talk about Trump being an existential threat to democracy. He is not.” Barr wrote.
Can’t argue with that, unless you are blinded by Left idiology from MSM.
Peter Welch released a very nice statement about the shooting.
You mean his staff wrote something for him, he could care less. I have no sympathy for these hypocritical liars on the left. If you support Peter (the Peter Principal Welch) you are a useful idiot. Tell us all what he’s accomplished in congress for VT or for America other than being a democratic yes man?
Mr Welch is the optimacy of the human race, VT should be so lucky. Here’s a person of high intelligent, all caring, dedicated, helpful, bipartisanship, buys Republicans their lunches when together, doesn’t take a salary or gives to charity as Trump did, pays his own travel and food, has self medical insurance would rather be in VT among his contributors than in DC, hates being interviewed by the press, respects America’s heritage and people, corresponds with Vermonters via newsletters personal interactions and etc. The list of giving this guy does is certainly for the betterment of VT and America.
Mr wonderful, the ideal Senator.
Where is Phil Scott, Biden voter and supporter by his own admission? Where is his commwnt?
Welch hasn’t written his reply yet.
Amazing how the Left is back pedaling after it’s an adversary this is targeted. If it was Biden, they would be blaming everyone on the right and pushing for gun legislation, the latter which has been silent thank goodness.
But I’m not surprised that David Zuckerman could only repeat what someone else said. Probably too much under the influence of weed to think of something on his own.
He’s wishing a speedy recovery to the man in the stands who was killed by a bullet to the head. Nice work, DZ.
Exactly.. could you imagine if this exact thing had happened to Biden?! We’d be in a tsunami of anti Republican news casts 24/7, There would be an immediate attempt to ban all AR-15 style rifles, Trump would instantly be blamed and probably arrested for “violent rhetoric”, ETC..ETC..
Democrats and then liberal media really need to look in the mirror and do some soul searching.. Yeah- I won’t hold my breath!
And still, not a mention of the shooting incident on VTDigger or Seven Days as of this writing.
Maybe that’s why liberals don’t know much of anything outside their echo chamber!
Don’t jump to conclusions. This could have been an angry right wing jihadist upset with Trump’s demands to remove all references to abortion from the Republican National Committee platform.
‘Angry right wing jihadist’? Really???
I suppose anything is possible in a world filled with disturbed people. But could this assertion be just another example of psychological projection? Just asking. A dog smells its own dirt first, after all.
Please. At the very least, spare me the nonsensical, logical fallacies and gaslighting. I get it. Whatever it takes. Never Trump.
Regarding the possibility that the attempted Trump assassination was an ‘inside job’, consider the various philosophical principles or rules of thumb that allow for the elimination of unlikely explanations.
Occam’s Razor: when presented with multiple competing hypotheses for a phenomenon, or explanations for an event, start by selecting the simplest and most likely one, the one that makes the fewest assumptions.
Karl Popper’s Falsifiability Principle: It’s easy to obtain confirmations or verifications for nearly every theory – if we look for confirmations (i.e., a confirmation bias). After all, every genuine test of a theory should be an attempt to falsify it or refute it, not justify it.
And most importantly,
Hanlon’s razor: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence or stupidity.”
Or, it could have been a plot from the Tooth Fairy
Biden’s attempts to control his media attack dogs after his opponent was bitten seem empty. After calling for “the sights to be placed on Mr. Trump “the geriatric bumbling POTUS call denied making the statement! I note the well-documented history of the Left calling for political violence in this country.
