A candlelight vigil will be held in honor of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk Friday 7:30 – 8:30 PM at Fred Mold Park in St. Johnsbury.
“Though this candlelight vigil will be remembrance of Charlie Kirk, I encourage anyone that feels that they would like to hold candles in representation for any of the other horrible tragedies that have happened in the weeks past,” organizer Patrick Mayhew said on Facebook.
“Something horrible is happening in America, we are divided and have forgotten what our country was founded on,” Mayhew said. “Fighting amongst each other will never be the solution. Charlie was a man slain because of his opinions, beliefs and trying to have conversations on some of the most difficult topics that we deal with as a society. That should never be acceptable in our nation.”
Another candlelight vigil for Kirk will be held 7 PM Friday at Riverside Middle School in Springfield.
Meanwhile, much of Vermont’s media has been muted-to-silent on the assassination of Kirk last Wednesday and on the Vermonters’ reaction. VDC has reached out for comment to three prominent Vermont news media outlets who – by website searches, anyway – have not yet covered the aftermath (vigils, statements by Gov. Scott and Congressional delegation, etc.). We hope to report on their response(s) tomorrow.
There is certainly no lack of interest. VDC’s Facebook page alone has received more than 1,000,000 views in the last seven days – most of it CK-related.

I posted this on FPF:
“In an environment where mainstream media is “ongoing election campaign”, or as Governor Cox described social media, “a cancer,” every word or action we spread carries weight. Every post, every chant, every sign—it all matters.
We all hold different views. That is the beauty of a free people. But the real test is not whether we have views—it is how we defend them. Do we defend our views by coming to the table with an open heart, a willingness to listen, and a spirit of forgiveness, as Charlie Kirk was preaching? Or do we hand a little girl a sign with words like “F Trump” or promote discount codes like “TuckFrump”? Are we willing to have open, peaceful debate, or do we silence speakers with making noise. One of many examples is event at sate house on March 12?
Governor Cox said, “Every single one of us gets to choose right now if this is a turning point for us.”
So today, I bow my head—not in defeat, but in respect. Respect for Charlie Kirk, who dared to speak his truth with courage, peace, and an open heart.
So I bow my head to Charlie Kirk, the man who dared to speak his truth peacefully and with an open heart.”
This was response via email to me:
: “Must we revisit Advanced Diction and Rhetoric to understand what celebrate means? Alternatively, do we need a class in media literacy to learn how an entire society is being manipulated with the narrative that otherwise rational people are celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk? Make no mistake, people are not celebrating Charlie Kirk’s murder. No one has to like, agree, or even respect the opposition. But distorting reality and assigning behaviors to groups where the behavior simply does not exist is the very definition of lying. People are free, welcome, and even encouraged to express relief that one who seeks to oppress others is no longer capable of doing so. The same can be said when someone who seeks to suppress opposing points of view no longer has that power. This is undoubtedly true in instances where there is a power disparity, character assassinations are part of the playbook, lies and deceit are part of the functional norm, and the words and deeds of a perpetrator physically endanger people. There will be no canonization of any individual who clearly stated that one race is intellectually inferior to another. We will not mourn anyone who has the temerity to call another human being an abomination to God. We will not shed tears for any human being who could not shed tears for children who were gunned down as they exercised their right to an education, who felt these very children were a worthy sacrifice to the God of Guns and Ammo. And we will certainly not castigate, chastise, or verbally abuse anyone who has the decency and dignity to realize the difference between mourning someone who repairs the world versus someone who seeks to divide it and break it. If you are frustrated or mad because there are people who refuse to be silent in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s murder, if you cannot accept the justified criticism that Charlie Kirk earned in life, then you simply did not pay attention to anything Charlie Kirk said or did, particularly when it came to free speech and the spirit of debate. And for those of you who claim to be religious or spiritual, you certainly are not paying attention to anything as you log your hours in your respective houses of worship. No human being is inferior to another. No child is an abomination to God. Murder, in any form or fashion, has always been a sin, not to be excused or dismissed as a hobby or a perceived right. All of this is why we will continue to speak out and oppose Charlie Kirk, even in the wake of his death.”
I answered:
Thank you for your reply to my posting. Could you please clarify a few things for me?
1. Where in my post did I say “that otherwise rational people are celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk”?
2. How and where did Charlie Kirk oppress anyone, as you described him as “one who seeks to oppress”?
3. Who is “someone who seeks to suppress opposing points”? Is it me, or Charlie Kirk?
4. Who is the “perpetrator” in your statement: “and the words and deeds of a perpetrator physically endanger people”? Are you referring to Charlie Kirk? If so, how do his words “physically endanger people”?
5. When did Charlie Kirk “clearly state that one race is intellectually inferior to another,” or “call another human being an abomination to God,” or “fail to shed tears for children who were gunned down”?
6. From where in my posting did you conclude that I am “frustrated or mad because there are people who refuse to be silent in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s murder,” or that I “cannot accept the justified criticism that Charlie Kirk earned in life”?
7. Could you please provide specific examples of what “Charlie Kirk said or did, particularly when it came to free speech and the spirit of debate”?
By the way, I never “claimed to be religious or spiritual, you certainly are not paying attention to anything as you log your hours in your respective houses of worship”
I was not closely following all of Charlie Kirk’s work, so could you please provide me with links to his words concerning the above questions?
Thank you very much,
With best regards
Aida
The “two sides” are far too diametrically opposed in light of now decades of indoctrination via the education and alterations of the judicial system to come to any meaningful resolve.

Though all peoples always deserve, regardless of their viewpoints, love, respect, and decent treatment – inhabiting the same soil successfully under the premises outlined in our founding documents appears potentially impossible at this current moment in time.
An innocent man was fairly recently murdered in downtown Burlington in broad daylight. The response by the mayor continues to be that additional law enforcement officers are not the solution, and she has finally hired a Chief of Police who largely agrees with that sentiment & who proclaims that alternate remedies in the form of “restorative justice” are the answer.
Continue to stay away from Burlington, Vermont.
The shooting of Charlie Kirk has divided the population into two waring camps by design. This operation is a coverup of a more dangerous system being set up to take away your freedoms. Understanding the words 33, Tyler, 22 and many other clues will be on you to investigate the blood sacrifice of Charlie Kirk on the eve of the 911 event as they are both connected. Comment from Richard Day.
911 certainly put everybody in “unison”, this will be for division, but for those with a heart toward Christ it would be easy for them to pull off.
There is something going on, surely. It will be interesting to see the Candice interview of the boy/girl/furry friend.
Thanks for reporting on the vigils VDC!
VTDigger, SevenDays and the Burlington Free Press continue to ignore them.
