Vermont seniors poorer but healthy

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Vermont seniors are more poverty-stricken than they were five years ago. They’re also the healthiest in the nation, according to a recent report by United Health Group.

The recently released 2025 America’s Health Rankings Senior Report examines 55 measures of health, providing insights into many of the strengths and areas of improvement in the health of older Americans on a national and state-wide level.

In this year’s report Vermont was ranked No. 1 in overall health, and key findings include:

  • Poverty increased 57% from 6.1% to 9.6% of adults age 65 and older between 2019 and 2023.
  • High-speed internet access increased 26% from 68.4% to 86.4% of households with adults age 65 and older between 2015 and 2023.
  • Preventable hospitalizations decreased 5% from 1,271 to 1,210 discharges per 100,000 Medicare beneficiaries ages 65-74 between 2021 and 2023.

  1. Is this the proverbial double edged sword ? We’ll live healthier, and therefore longer, (?) so we’ll have to pay inflated taxes longer ? I predict a rise in the number of Dr. assissted suicides. Excuse me, “deaths with dignity”. Is everything going to plan ?.

  2. You will have to pry my hoe out of my cold dead hands as I prepare my one thousand square foot garden so I can stay healthy and alive. Yes, inflation has caused a lot of hardship for the poor elderly sixty five and older. Thankyou, PICKPOCKETPOWELL and your money masters.

  3. Vermonters live longer, so thay can keep paying bloated taxes just to stay in there over appraised homes, yup that from progressive policies ……………..pretty pathetic !!

    Wake up people,

  4. Since the non-profiteers and NGO’s are releasing reports attempting to paint a rosey picture to further grease their palms, perhaps a dose of reality is in order using the State’s own data.

Vermont Department of Health: “In 2023, 125 Vermonters died by suicide, a rate of 19.3 per 100,000 residents. While the number of suicide deaths in Vermont has decreased the past two years, there has not been a statistically significant change in the rate of suicide deaths in Vermont over the past 10 years. The rate of
suicide in Vermont has been consistently higher than the rate of suicide in the United States.”

Vermont 2023 Annual Vital Statistics Report: Deaths:

    Population: 647,464
    Deaths: 6,771
    Infant Deaths: 16
    Heart Disease: 1,436
    Cancer: 1,484
    Unintentional Injuries: 565
    Fetal Deaths: 15
    Abortions: 1,015

In 2023, Vermont lost 1.04% of population to death – over 1,000 never took a breath? I wonder what the 2024 stats are and how many so far in 2025? Peddlers of lies and manipulation must cease and desist. Depopulation, wealth transfer, reset.
