Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark is joining attorneys general from other states to meddle in the internal operations of Walmart policy on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Walmart reportedly is rolling back its diversity, equity and inclusion policies to focus on being more “belonging.”

In an undated post to Walmart’s website, the company said its vision is “simple, yet powerful.”

“‘Everyone included.’ By nurturing a workplace culture where everyone is – and feels – included, we create an environment where everyone wins,” the company said. “By making Walmart a welcoming place where people feel like they belong, we’re able to engage associates, strengthen our business, improve our ability to serve customers, and support the communities where we operate.”

The Associated Press reported a Walmart spokesperson said some of the company’s policy changes have been in progress for a while. That included moving away from using the terminology of DEI in job titles and communications and instead using words like “belonging.” The company also started making modifications to their supplier programs.

The AGs’ letter to Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon dated Thursday said they fear the plan “risks undermining important social progress and antidiscrimination efforts” and understand the pressure the company likely faced following “the anti-DEI pressure campaign.”

“[T]hreats to boycott, sue, or otherwise negatively impact Walmart’s bottom line may well have contributed to your decision to walk away from your commitments to DEI,” the group of states’ attorneys general said. “But we are concerned that Walmart failed to consider the other side – the customers and employees that will be alienated by this departure, the historically-disadvantaged minority- and women-owned small businesses that will have a harder time becoming suppliers to Walmart, and the economic benefits of diversity that Walmart will lose by abandoning its commitment to a diverse workforce.”

Walmart didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from The Center Square Friday.

“Everything we do comes from a place of wanting to foster a sense of belonging, to create opportunities for all and be a Walmart for everyone,” the undated website posting said.

Raoul and the other states’ AGs said in their six-page letter to Walmart they want more information from the company.

“We would welcome more information, either as you communicate your recommitment to the important values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, or as you share with our offices how you intend to ensure compliance with our states’ laws,” they said.

Raoul was joined in signing the letter by the attorneys general from California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

DEI has come under increased scrutiny as critics say it places physical characteristics and identity over merit and outcomes. Critics also say DEI programming costs corporations money and government agencies taxpayer dollars.

  1. She must have gotten the memo from George Soros, just like the mayor of Burlington. Clearly, she does not shop in Walmart, because nothing could be further from the truth, many don’t even have English as a primary language. funny how my comment below seems to work here too.

The plan is to make Vermont a playground for the rich, who are served by illegal immigrants on low wages, putting them in little village condominium projects owned by the connected. That’s what they are doing.

You will own nothing and be happy. (Walmart do our bidding or else!)

This is also what our Governor and Leader of the VTGOP voted for in the last election, publicly announced it in worldwide press.

Why are we surprised? Liars don’t tell you what their real aim is.

  2. Walmart is a private company. Your choice to shop there or not. As far as DEI is concerned, it’s none of the AG’s business as far as I’m concerned. Walmart is entitled to hire who they feel is competent for the job. Filling quotas is counterproductive. This country was built by competent individuals not DEI.

  3. Dear AG. Drop the politics and refuse any other kickbacks from Uncle George Soros and company. We have real live criminals out there begging for attention. Please don’t deprive them. Sincerely, the people that allegedly voted you into office.

    • Also ask the residents of Maui as a city employee wouldn’t release water to fight the fire because of Equity.

  4. A few years ago, when social media, in particular, was canceling conservatives, the Leftist/Prog/Dems screamed they were private companies and could do what they wanted in our free market economy. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they want to force companies to keep the DEI scam going. Leftist/Prog/Dem motto: It’s OK when WE do it!

  5. Why is it the AGs business?
    It is the business’ business.
DEI is a failed social experiment, not a by-law mandate. Rise through the merit of your work . Quality of character. Knowledge and demonstrated skills.
Too many positions are now calling into question those who have been placed into the position by somefeel good action putting the greater good at risk.

DEI is a Soviet program, not an American invention. It was created in the USSR by Stalin and Lenin in the 1920s. The results were Increased ethnic strife when specific populations deemed as privileged were made to subjugate themselves to ethnic minorities to accomplish “actual equality,” which we today call “equity.” The full program was called korenizatsiya (https://en.wikipedia.o…, and its “diversity” program was called raznoobrazsiya, and its lever was called “Great Russian chauvinism” in the USSR, “Han chauvinism” in the PRC, “white supremacy culture” in today’s West. This program is being implemented by the United Nations and China through many avenue. One being the Asia Society in public schools curriculum via an AP Global Leadership Program.

  7. Hey Walmart, and any other business or entity being unlawfully hounded by Attorney General Charity Clark. You only need a 3 word response to these Marxist Socialist a$$hats. GO POUND SAND…

  8. AG Clark’s Marxist overreach in this situation is as evil and demonic as her meddling with Vermont’s Pregnancy Resource Centers and inciting other state AsG to sign on with her in trying to vilify and shut PRCs down as fake clinics. She couldn’t be further from the truth.

But then again, this is what the devil and his minions do: attack that which is good and truly helps people, while championing hellish ideologies and faddish mandates which hurt and kill people.

  9. The Soros Stepford Wives are in as much disbelief as they are in disarray. Racketeering is a word starting to get thrown around in the press a lot lately….gee, I wonder why? Collusion, conspiracies to commit fraud, crimes against humanity, etc. I wonder how many all ready raided and charged are dropping dimes? The day the AG sits in the defendant’s chair is the only real justice we will all believe in. Perhaps AI assists writing up plea deals in exchange for testimony against co-conspirators?
Worth checking out Charity – it certaintly works well for press releases. Maybe familarize yourself with those Federal criminal codes – start with U.S. Code – Unannotated Title 18. Crimes and Criminal Procedure
