A Vergennes resident has pleaded innocent to a series of serious felonies, including human trafficking and aggravated sexual assault.
According to the Office of the Vermont Attorney General, Richard Memoli, 69, of Vergennes was arraigned in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division, on a lengthy list of charges. These include two counts of felony human trafficking, three counts of felony aggravated sexual assault, one count of felony first-degree aggravated domestic assault, and one count of felony cocaine possession.
Memoli’s sex offense criminal record goes back at least as far as 2008, when he was charged with aggravated sexual assault.
Memoli also faces several misdemeanor charges: three counts of voyeurism, two counts of prostitution, and one count of simple assault.
The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Vergennes Police Department.
At his arraignment, Memoli pleaded not guilty. The presiding judge, Alison Arms, ordered that he be held without bail. The court also imposed conditions restricting his contact with alleged victims and witnesses.
