A Venezuelan national faces federal charges after crossing the U.S.-Canadian border illegally on a motorcycle near the Haskell Library in Derby Line, while carrying multiple weapons and ammunition, prosecutors said.

Julio Cesar Romero-Paredes, 46, was charged with unlawful firearm possession as an illegal alien and illegal reentry after deportation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.


According to court records, Customs and Border Protection officers arrested Romero-Paredes around 12:50 a.m. on November 7 after he allegedly drove around border barriers on a Georgia-registered motorcycle. Officers stopped him near Exit 28 on Interstate 91.

A search of the motorcycle revealed a loaded Walther P22 pistol, multiple magazines containing approximately 80 rounds of ammunition, a suspected suppressor, handcuff keys, knives, a collapsible baton, zip ties, and cell phones, authorities said.

Immigration records show Romero-Paredes entered the U.S. in 2005 on a visitor’s visa and was ordered removed by a Dallas immigration judge in March 2022.

If convicted, he faces up to 15 years imprisonment on the firearm charge and two years for illegal reentry. His initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle has not been scheduled.

  1. Save his NEXT deportation until AFTER he serves the absolute maximum federal sentences for if convicted of the crimes he has been charged. Given some of the items illegally in his possession, one can only imagine what his intentions were . . .

    • Why waste taxpayer dollars on this slug? Perhaps keep him in custody until January 22 2025 and let Trump make him the first to get the boot.

    The current administration wasted billions and billions of dollars and put the nation at a serious security risk. Now we will need to spend billions to clean up that mess. What were they thinking? In a time when we have vets, families, communities hurting with this burdensome economy we should not have had this self-made disaster to deal with. Help is on the way.   7. No longer can afford popcorn. Georgia registered motorcycle. Walter p22 pistol. and other assorted items. Willing to bet all of these were stolen. Now, who owned the motorcycle????? Inquiring minds would like to know. Oh also, was this gun reported stolen????

  8. Strange, but there was nothing about this one Channel 3 news this evening. I guess they were too busy covering the evil sheriff of Essex County who is suspected of coordinating with Federal agents about illegal aliens.

  9. I don’t want to incarcerate this animal in the USA at taxpayer expense. I want to cut off his arms and send him back to where he came from. But that’s just me.
