COLCHESTER – Colchester Police have arrested one of the two masked men wanted for a near-fatal shooting in old Fort Ethan Allen that left a man in critical condition over the weekend.
Ryan Ducharme, 21, of Burlington is still being sought for attempted homicide in the shooting at 363 Ethan Allen Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, Colchester Police said.

Investigators conducted a court-ordered search of Ducharme’s residence at 374 Riverside Avenue. The missing man, formerly of Winooski, is believed to be armed and dangerous, police said.
His reported accomplice, Jonathan Willard, 19, of Winooski was arraigned in Vermont Superior Court on Tuesday on several criminal charges.
Those charges include aiding in the commission of a felony and false information to police as part of the ongoing investigation into the attempted homicide, officials said.
The victim, Shaun Sylveste, was shot at least three times in the chest, abdomen and a leg, police said. The 23-year-old Colchester resident remained in critical condition at the hospital on Tuesday evening, police said.
Police said the investigation soon developed the names of two suspects. Investigators also learned that when Ducharme drinks he becomes confrontational and picks fights with everyone to include his friends, police said in court papers.
When eventually confronted by police, Willard maintained he did not know the name of the man he was hanging around with on Friday night and who asked him to drive him to old Fort Ethan Allen early Saturday, court records note.
Responding officers had found a man with multiple gunshot wounds laying on the ground outside of the apartment building on Saturday morning and immediately began providing emergency medical care, police said.
St. Michael’s College Rescue personnel arrived to rush the man to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of his various wounds.
There were at least six .45-caliber casings, blood and other evidence found at the scene, which is near the Colchester/Essex boundary.
Both Colchester and Essex Police emergency dispatchers reported receiving phone calls indicating multiple shots, likely 5 or 6, had been fired. A vehicle with a loud exhaust was heard fleeing the scene.
Police quickly developed names of possible suspects and were reportedly looking for an orange-colored car with Vermont plates, possibly a Ford Flex, that fled the scene.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with its Chittenden County Gun Violence Task Force were called out to assist with the investigation, police said.
Essex and Williston Police also responded and assisted at the scene.
Detective Michael West said initially on Saturday he believed the shooting was an isolated incident and that there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Colchester Police at (802) 264-5555.

When family structures break down, when society breaks down two things usually happen, because people look for family and love in the wrong ways.
Young men become violent, anger is the one emotion they know, they tend toward gangs, drugs and alcohol for sense of belonging, promiscuous sex for love.
Young women form relationships and have children at a very early age, all for the same reasons, family, love and bonding.
The structures in place for a solid family were very much present with our brothers and sisters who lived in the cities. Then a plan was implemented to go in a different direction, these were big city (big bureaucracy) plans that have wreaked havoc with our brothers and sisters living in big cities.
This plan is being implemented across the state of Vermont. The results are the same, as they always get the same results.
Vermont has adopted big city solutions, and now we have big city problems.
It’s time for a change, we know this plan doesn’t work, we need to change direction.
We really do need to
TAKE BACK VERMONT
In Vermont, this young man isn’t supposed to have a handgun and a 45 at that. We normal people now have to worry about the young criminals as well as the out of state trash that shows up and sets up in an apartment or motel to sell drugs. This is yet another example of the fact that gun control does not work.
Law abiding people who wish to protect themselves from the ravages of the progressive destruction that has befallen Vermont are treated like criminals and laws are fashioned to control them. The criminals on the other hand are free to tote any weapon they wish because they don’t care about gun control laws.
You would think that these anti-gun lawmakers like Baruth and LaLond would realize that the people who are the problem don’t give a s__t about their laws. So the results are, slap another gun control law on the people who aren’t the problem and while doing so strip them of their constitutional rights as outlined in article 16 of the VT constitution and the 2nd amendment. They violate the oaths they took in so doing.
Vermont was so much stronger before the nanny state, anti-gun crowd invaded our state. Look at the picture of that young man, he’s well dressed and just doesn’t look like the kid who would fill you full of lead if you made him mad. There’s something terribly wrong with our state and it’s so-called leadership. With all the education these enlightened progressives claim to have, they just can’t get it through there heads that criminals could care less about what they do or say or the laws they push onto the people.
It’s way past time to dust off all of those TAKE BACK VERMONT signs because since these people arrived to save us from ourselves, Vermont has gone to hell and it wasn’t Trump or the republicans that did any of it. Let that sink in!
My TAKE BACK VERMONT sign has been on my shed from the very beginning of that operation and i know the people that were involved . The problem now is many of these people have died or are too old.
Let’s watch how this plays out, this criminal when caught and he will, for shooting up another with a 45 ACP, small boys with big toys…………
He will probably will get a slap on the wrist from Vermonts liberal justice system as another lays dying in the hospital, over what drugs ??, that would be my guess.
Maybe a little time in the slammer will help…. Nah, they have no morals, just more decay in our society !!
