A serious collision at a snowy intersection in Swanton sent four people to the hospital Tuesday morning after a pickup truck reportedly ran a stop sign.
The crash occurred around 10:26 a.m. at the intersection of Woods Hill Road and Bushey Road, according to Vermont State Police. Authorities say James Gebo, 66, of Fairfield was driving northbound on Bushey Road when he failed to stop at the intersection. His 2014 Ram pickup truck collided with a westbound 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Diane Bocain, 78, of Montgomery.
The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, coming to rest in a field northwest of the intersection. Emergency responders from State Police, Swanton Fire Department, and three area rescue squads responded to the scene.
Gebo was traveling with passenger Paula Gebo, 65, while Richard Biocan, 94, was a passenger in Bocain’s vehicle. All four individuals remained conscious after the crash but required extrication from their vehicles. They were transported to Northwestern Medical Center with injuries described as likely serious.
Weather conditions at the time included snow and wind, with road surfaces partially snow-covered. The Ram sustained heavy front-end damage, while the Silverado received significant damage to its driver’s side panels.
State Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact their St. Albans barracks.
