Chris Goodwin, coach of the Mid-Vermont Christian School girls basketball team, tells podcaster and former Olympic swimmer Riley Gaines that his private Christian school team is under a permanent ban from participating in Vermont school athletics, because the school forfeited a 2023 tournament game against an opposing team that included a biological male.
The school figured the suspension would be just for a year. They were ready for game one of the next season. “Game One never came,” Goodwin says.
The school’s lawsuit against the state was shot down in U.S. District Court. Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing Mid Vermont Christian School earlier this month argued its lawsuit in the U.S. Second Circuit Court in New York City, claiming as unconstitutional the school’s expulsion from State tournament play after the girls’ basketball team refused to take the court against a school with a biological male player.
“We’ll take it up to the Supreme Court if we have to,” an Alliance for Defending Freedom lawyer tells Gaines.

Vermont is not complying with current law governing title 9 and rules barring discrimination under title 6. They sent a form letter earlier this year to the feds saying that all schools were in compliance, but clearly they are not. The DOJ needs to begin an investigation and start with
what’s being done to Mid Vermont Christian School
The undercurrent for all this is that the prevailing (read loudest) ethos in our state is anti Christian and anti public school competitors. As the system continues to wallow in evidence of it’s failure to serve its customers the desperation of its stakeholders has become a spectacle.
The wheels of Justice are turning slowly. Lets hope that when the girls prevail the judgement gets paid swiftly.
The Trump administration is on the side of Mid-Vermont Christian School. This should be in their radar soon.
The Trump administration already has New England in its sights and on its radar concerning transgender athletes. Nealy three months ago, on 5 February, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order mandating that transgender women (males) be banned from competing in female sports.
The biggest takeaway is that the Trump administration has empowered the federal government to take aggressive steps to go after entities — be they a school or an athletic association or a state — that do not comply. Federal funding, and potentially grants to educational programs, could be pulled.
The State of Maine is now in violation of this executive order, as is Vermont.
Maine Governor Janet Mills has been in a public dispute with President Trump over the issue of transgender athletes in sports, leading to legal battles and threats of funding cuts to the state.
The State of Vermont will probably be next unless the fools who are contesting the Executive Order with regards to the Mid-Vermont Christian School, straighten out their warped thinking…
The entire point of all this anti-constitutional and blatantly illegal discriminatory law is simply to keep the Trump administration in court 24/7 through distractions, delays, and constant obfuscation.
Meanwhile, guess who’s paying for it all? WE, the people whom these godless anarchists & totalitarians took a sworn oath to represent.
These Communists will NEVER cease. McCarthy was, very simply, right.
Oh yeah…..btw Brian Cina — I’m still livin’ it up in VT! Thought you were comin’ after me? What happened??
Tag. You’re it! Looks like you lost. Big time!
You may be from N.J., but NYC “trumps” all other states!!! Ya CANNOT win against a native NY’er. NO FEAR. Which is why Trump won DESPITE your impotent DNC lawfare.
You’re it though, if ya still wanna play. See ya ’round town!
Oh, and Brian…….the other who wins aside from, well, me and Trump is: GOD. In the end, He wins. No contest. And you all are the losers. Big time.
I’d “forfeit” now, if I were you. It’s ALL pre-written.
I’m lovin’ this taunt of progressive troublemaker Brian Cina, although I know nothing about the dispute. Must be a doozy! Whatever it is, I’m with Kathleen all the way!
Don Keydick, likely a pseudonym, the People haven’t yet lost. Equality and the Bill of Rights are still fightingand the battle isn’t over.
Amen.
Hat’s off to Coach Goodwin, Riley Gaines, Mid Vermont Christian School, and Alliance Defending Freedom for your courage and standing up to this lunacy. How low we have sunk as a civilization that good, moral, and intelligent people are forced to suffer from the actions of losers and depraved idiots. Whatever happened to the old-fashioned notion of right and wrong?
This ban is an outrage and needs to be reversed! The VPA needs oversight, they have none that I’m aware of now. We should picket their hall of Fame event later this month as a protest!
Amen to that, Art. It’s utter insanity. Can you imagine if someone made up a fictional story about this sixty years ago? I don’t imagine it would have been anywhere near the realm of possibilities.
More national exposure to show the world Vermont is not a place to raise children, not a place to take a family vacation, not a place worth spending one dime in, not a place any sane, stable individual wishes to spend quality time exploring for a new place to live, work, or set up a new business. It’s a shame New England, as a whole, has irrevocably stained it’s long standing reputation as being a safe, fair, sane, and enjoyable place to live. It was great while it lasted – now we have a shambles of what it once stood for and what it once offered as good opportunities for a good life. The grifters ruined it and that is their prideful ways before the fall.
Does this private independent religious school receive any public funding through the state’s education tax system?
According to a Grok research report:
“Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) has faced challenges in participating in Vermont’s Town Tuitioning Program due to its religious beliefs, particularly regarding human sexuality and gender. Vermont’s Agency of Education denied MVCS designation as an approved independent school, which is required to participate in the tuitioning program, because the school’s policies did not align with state anti-discrimination laws, specifically the Vermont Public Accommodations Act and Fair Employment Practices Act. These laws prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and MVCS’s refusal to amend its policies to comply led to its exclusion from the program. As a result, school districts like Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union and Orange East Supervisory Union recouped tuition payments initially sent to MVCS.
While MVCS was previously eligible for the program following a 2021 U.S. Court of Appeals ruling and a 2022 Supreme Court decision (Carson v. Makin) that allowed religious schools to receive public tuition funds, its approval was revoked in 2023 after it forfeited a girls’ basketball game against a team with a transgender player, citing religious convictions. The school, represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom, filed a federal lawsuit (Mid Vermont Christian School v. Bouchey) in November 2023, arguing that the state’s actions violated its First Amendment rights by conditioning participation in the tuition program on adopting the state’s views on gender and sexuality.
As of the latest available information, MVCS is not currently approved to accept state-funded tuition through the Town Tuitioning Program due to its ongoing legal dispute and failure to meet the state’s anti-discrimination requirements. However, the school actively seeks scholarships and need-based tuition assistance through partnerships with donors and foundations to support families, aiming to keep tuition contributions to 12% of a family’s annual household income for those who qualify.
For the most current status, contacting MVCS directly at (802) 295-6800 or mvcs@mvcs.info is recommended, as the legal case may evolve.”
Here’s a new model for education.

Of course, if you just educate without morals then you have smart criminals, there is much good to take from this. There is much to be added to this also, but it is also not currently talked about or introduced in the current school system, so there’s that.
The art of confusion keeps your minds off the total destruction of humanity. The cult of the world are running this dog and pony show and who will stop it?????
school, then and now.. and we wonder why our kids struggle?

This is how K-12 public education is done in Texas.
From the office of the Texas Governor. May 3, 2025
Years in the making, SB2 creates a universal school choice initiative that gives parents direct control over how public education funds are spent on their children. The new ESA program allows families to use their taxpayer dollars for a wide range of educational expenses, including private school tuition, homeschool materials, tutoring services, online coursework, and standardized testing fees.
“For the first time in Texas history, our state has passed a universal school choice bill out of both chambers in the Texas Legislature. This is an extraordinary victory for the thousands of parents who have advocated for more choices when it comes to the education of their children,” Abbott said. “I applaud the legislators who took a stand with the overwhelming majority of Texans who support school choice.”
Notice to Vermont legislators: Now – watch Texas.
The Vermont principles association has lost their moral compass. The school regardless of its religious affiliation is just making a decision based on Biology for the safety and fairness of girls playing basketball
You can think that it’s just about safety but the school and their legal counsel has stated otherwise.
They’ve claimed publicly that the team forfeited the single game “to avoid violating its religious beliefs.”

Why does one have to base opposition to this nonsense on religious beliefs? It’s moronic on every level and an assault on biology and plain common sense.
This is ridiculous. The state needs to have law no biological male playing on girls teams. Common sense
