  3. NBC 5, it’s bad grammar to say “they” when referring to a singular person. In English, “he” or “she” is the correct way to refer to a singular person. “They” is the correct pronoun to use when referring to plural persons.

    • they can also be used if:
      the gender of the person has been previously asserted.
      the gender of the person is unknown, ie. anonymous or unidentified.

      but then again, we all know what your objection here is.

    • Total grammatical confusion is a small price to pay for delicately assuaging someone’s gender fantasies…
