Vermont State Police arrested Erik Fulton, 37, of Royalton, on charges of domestic violence after an incident that started Wednesday night, and ended early Thursday, when police’s special tactical team was called in.
The incident began around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when police from the Royalton Barracks responded to a domestic violence report at a home on Gee Hill Road in Royalton. When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim and learned that Fulton had left the scene. Police do not release the names of domestic violence victims.
Through their investigation, police found that Fulton had first gone to Lyme, New Hampshire, before coming back to Vermont and going to Norwich. While in Norwich, Fulton broke into a home and stole a car, according to police. The stolen car was later found parked outside the original Gee Hill Road home where the domestic violence had happened.
Police surrounded the house and told Fulton to give himself up, but he did not respond and stayed inside the home. Vermont State Police then called in their Tactical Services Unit, and after they arrived, officers went into the house. Fulton then gave himself up and was arrested without any other problems.
After his arrest, Fulton was taken to the Royalton Barracks and then moved to the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield. A judge ordered him held without bail until his court hearing. His first court appearance is set for 12:30 p.m. Thursday, by video in Vermont Superior Court in Woodstock.
