by Timothy Page, from information released by the Burlington Police Department
In a series of escalating legal troubles, Patrick Ibbotson, 37, has become a familiar figure in Burlington’s law enforcement circles. Over the past year, Ibbotson has been involved in nearly 230 encounters with police, resulting in 69 arrests, many for violating conditions of release. His latest string of incidents began on August 8, 2024, when Burlington Police officers observed him breaching existing court conditions at the Marketplace Garage. Despite being taken into custody for this and a separate burglary at Burlington City Arts, he was released with a court citation.
The pattern continued over the following days. On August 9, Ibbotson was again arrested for violating release conditions in the same garage, only to be released once more. By August 10, he was apprehended twice in one day—first for trespassing on Buell Street, and later for disrupting a mass at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Each time, he was released with a citation.
On August 13, Ibbotson was spotted exiting the Marketplace Parking Garage with an alcoholic beverage, violating his release conditions. Attempting to evade officers, he was eventually captured and charged with multiple offenses, including resisting arrest. Despite these charges, he was released on bail.
The situation escalated further on August 15, when Ibbotson was arrested for stealing a cellphone and later for inappropriate conduct downtown. Initially released on conditions, he was later detained for violating those conditions by consuming alcohol.
Finally, on August 19, Ibbotson was arraigned and held without bail, marking a significant turn in his ongoing legal saga. With approximately 35 active criminal court cases pending, his repeated arrests highlight the challenges of managing repeat offenders within the justice system.

You know it being Burlington there will be a GoFundMe page set up to free him—-if there is not one already.
The Burlington Police are doing their job. The states attorney isn’t. Why is the bum still in office? They are failing society, and their profession.
Is it any wonder Burlington is dying?
Can the States Attorney be subject to a recall election?
The theft in Chittenden county is astronomical. WPTZ had great articles on this guy, notice VT DIGGER doesn’t even talk about it. So other than noticing we have to bar everything in a store from theft…..one might not notice if you don’t work in retail.
If you work in retail you know very well, every day multiple times. Why lock up flashlights and underwear….homeless essentials, easier to steal than clean.
Why lock up anything of value? Because Facebook market place is a perfect fencing tool, you’ll find many new unopened boxes of about any power tool, anything small or medium sized that’s easy to get out of a store in a shopping cart is available at great prices.
So not only does the store say lose a $1,000 in one theft, which on a 10% margin would take $10,000 in sales just to cover the theft, not even pay for employees or overhead, much less a profit,
But you have to compete against your own stolen goods at 50% off!
To say the justice system in Vermont is rigged would be too kind.
Interview some police officers, they are often at stores every day.
Hell, this guy had the attention of a police officer, 5 days week, 52 weeks in a year, I guess even criminals take 2 days off. This is just ONE person. There are legions.
If you notice the camping section in Walmart Williston is a former shell of itself and locked up like fort knox.
took me half an hour to get someone to open the plexiglass so I could buy a package of underwear and socks at Walmart. Everyone is a victim of our poor excuse for a State’s Attorney.
If I’m not mistaken, there is a habitual offender law on the books and isn’t it the job of the prosecutor to apply the law as written? Who is responsible for ensuring the law is upheld as written and swears an oath to defend public safety? Dereliction of duty – willful and knowingly. Yet, we have a populace that just goes along with their heads down hoping they are not the next entry on the police blotter. We have a legislature, an administration, a judiciary, and all flagrant violators in-between getting away with fraud, collusion, conspiracies to commit fraud, complicit, treason, and sedition. Good times eh!
Vermont’s habitual offender statute is only an OPTION for selective prosecution. It really needs to be mandated, like California’s old “3 strikes and you’re out” law, before it was rescinded by the current crop of commies there. The majority of voters in Vermont have apparently decided that our current level of crime is acceptable and fraught with “root causes” which first need to be addressed.
Why call him a suspected repeat offender? It’s pretty well documented that’s what he actually is.
just another day at the vermont zoo//// the zoo masters are in charge////
So, Patrick Ibbotson, 37, has been involved in nearly 230 encounters with police, resulting in 69 arrests, apparently, he needs permanent housing in the prison system.
What a useless POS……………………………
If he were diverse, he’d be back on the street
…If he was clever, he would claim to be non-binary and explain how he had been traumatized by a mean basketball coach when he was young. In commie Vermont, victimhood is king.
Who was the judge that kept letting him out? We need to WRITE THEM and give them a hard time.
Me thinks the headline needs revision, “suspected” repeat offender? 230 police encounters, 69 arrests and multiple violations of conditions, I’m pretty sure qualifies as REPEAT OFFENDER…just sayin’!
Yeah. Just being careful. But on the other hand he does have a handful of convictions so…. maybe you’re right, Jonathan
