Melody Philips

A Shelburne woman charged with assaulting and robbing a 72 year old man at an ATM has now been charged from robbing a 97-year-old man.

In the culmination of a series of alarming incidents, Melody Phillips was apprehended by officers on Church Street, Thursday, for violating her court-mandated conditions. Phillips had been instructed to stay off Church Street following her arraignment on July 10, for charges of Assault and Robbery.

The initial charges stemmed from an incident where Phillips forcibly stole money from a 72-year-old male victim, who sustained minor injuries after falling to the ground during the robbery. As the investigation unfolded, the lead officer discovered another disturbing event involving Phillips.

On July 7, Phillips targeted a 97-year-old male victim who was using his walker on Church Street. Witnesses recounted that the previous day, the victim had given Phillips twenty dollars when she asked for assistance. However, on July 7, Phillips approached the elderly man again, this time with more sinister intentions.

Phillips leapt in front of the victim’s walker, halting his progress. She then reached into his pants pocket, snatching his wallet. Despite the victim’s pleas, Phillips initially fled but returned when the victim begged for his wallet back, claiming it contained no money. In a cruel twist, Phillips handed back the wallet only to steal thirty-five to forty dollars from the victim’s other pocket before finally leaving the scene.

Further investigation revealed that Phillips had also stolen tip money from a local business on Church Street on the same day. These actions painted a troubling picture of Phillips’ disregard for the law and her willingness to prey on vulnerable individuals.

On July 11, at approximately 3:50 PM, officers patrolling Church Street on foot encountered Phillips, who was in clear violation of her court conditions. She was promptly taken into custody and lodged on a $1000.00 bail. Phillips is now facing new charges of Violation of Court Conditions and Larceny.

The Burlington Police Department continues to emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in ensuring the safety and security of all residents. The swift actions of the officers and the detailed accounts provided by witnesses were crucial in addressing these incidents and holding Phillips accountable for her actions.

As the investigation remains ongoing, the BPD urges anyone with additional information to come forward.

  1. well pretty soon citizens walking on any street will have to carry a stun gun….they must be vigilant…to be safe just never go out side your home…

  2. She is a “Shelburne woman”. Dollars to donuts she is a guest of the Vermont taxpayers at one of several formerly-fine motels along Rt7 that have a long track record of accommodating predatory criminals.

    • The perp should be a permanent guest at the Sarah $oro$ George residence.

  3. Why is any senior living in the cesspool known as Burlington, going downtown ??
what used to be a vibrant destination for all, is now just a hangout for the homeless,
    druggies, robbers, and muggers………………….

Whoops, I almost forgot the “nudists” running around the streets, with their junk flopping in the breeze, the City officials say it’s ” Ok “…………. you talk about a gaggle of fools !!

So, if you want some cultural diversity, go to Burlington they have it all……………….

    • Many senior citizens are forced to live in downtown Burlington, as are some that are lifelong residents that have no desire nor means to leave. Burlington Housing Authority provides needed affordable housing for seniors at several locations. These folks are low income at best, many with age related medical conditions and really need the help. Part of that help is safe conditions on Burlington’s streets. The current wave of ‘democratic socialism’ embraced by dems and progs hasn’t done much good for the utopia they sought for ‘the peoples republic’. Remember the ‘summer of love’? defund the police? BLM? all D/P organized events and agendas to further the social and economic collapse of the Queen City. Voters must want this, as they keep putting the same sociopathic politicians back in office.
That said, $1000 bail for this woman? yet in Caledonia County, bail for someone accused of assaulting a fireman was $5000? ms. states attorney sarah george and her team are certainly giving her donors what they wanted- at a huge cost to the residents and visitors to Chittenden County.
Behavior like this, Crimes like these, are the direct result of the voter- or those that choose not to vote.

    • Why only $1000 bail? They won’t even come after you for less than $1500

    • The vagrant community with their chronic shoplifting has also brought about the closing of the only downtown pharmacy, making things tougher on seniors and other with needs for pharmaceuticals…stay classy Burlington…

  4. Maybe she’s in need of 3 hots and a cot? The justice system should accommodate her. (and others like her)

  5. Like I needed another reason to never set foot in Burlington again. Let it rot. Like flies to carrion, it attracts and holds the worst Vermont has to offer.

    • NEK Patriot
I agree. However, in the meantime these poor elderly people who have no choice but to be there are being robbed, beaten, and even almost killed.

    • The problem is of course that rot spreads. And it has. The gangsta/drug crime has even spread to traditionally tourist locales like Manchester.

  6. well Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak instead of eating your free meals what don’t you do your job!!! or are you to busy planning your next menu?

  7. It all started with Bernie. I wonder how many are staying in any one of his three homes? Vermont hasn’t drawn the best and brightest to our state. There is money to be made if the welfare state is expanded and that’s exactly the motivation behind it. You can look to Montpelier for the root of all these problems. Keep voting progressive so Vermont can become the east coast Seattle cesspool. Burlington is well on its way, and no one wants to be bothered with cleaning it up. Carry on voters of Btown, great job!

  8. just another day at the vermont zoo////// i feel sorry for the 97 year old victim and the 72 year old man//// will melody, the predator, be placed in a cage on church street for public view////

  9. ANYONE seen as weaker by these degenerates is game. For those you tenuous about using your firearm in self-defense, (which is what the entire POINT of carrying is for I thought & which the US Constitution protects you in doing REGARDLESS of what the socialists of VT try to convince you of) ————– at LEAST do the second-best thing & walk with your protection trained Rottweiler at your side. No joke.

They fully will TAKE a BITE out of CRIME in Vermont!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • A Rottweiler, Doberman, German Sheppard or Pitbull can result in just as much liability as a firearm. As the saying goes, I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Choose wisely!

  10. Wild guess what this sub-human gets on Friday.
    >>>”A judge ordered an in-patient mental health evaluation for Phillips. She’s due back in court on Monday.”<<<
She will be back in court on Monday.
Wth is wrong with this picture? I'm sick of hearing "mental health!!" Lock these POSs up! Enough is enough! The innocent elderly trying to go about what they have left of their lives are subject to these awful acts because those sub-humans are just plain evil!!

  11. When will enough be enough Vermonters? How many more? Elderly and children targetted by predators with impunity. One day, this could be your loved one or even you!

I heard Pubic Safey Commissioner, Jennifer Morrision, pontificate, ad nauseum, about being safe, staying safe, during the flood recovery. She had to highlight the two drownings with feigned emotion. Health Commissioner, Mark Levin, (aka Ichabod Crane or Olaf from Frozen), resurfaces to talk about mental health caused by the flood. I seriously had to resist the urge to throw my TV off the deck and instead fired off a blue stream of expletives and rebuking them to the abyss in which the dwell.

Enough with their spellcasting and witchcraft wordcraft! Dispicible shameful bureaucrat meat puppets. Meanwhile, the bodies pile up and the misery continues unabated.

  12. health commissioner lurch levin/// the modeling man with the push for the covid kill shot/// another goon swinging from the trees in the vermont zoo/// a few more press releases and you will soon know who needs the mental health////

  13. Wow, people, wow! The comments section is just awful: “degenerate,” “sub-human,” “vagrant.” Where is the heart of Jesus? While I sincerely sympathize with the elderly victims, who we can only assume led a fairly wholesome life, preyed upon for their frailty, and that I could be next, when I look at the photo of the perpetrator, my heart aches. This young woman appears to be ravished by drug addiction. Pray for her! Pray for her victims! Bless, don’t curse! I have lost a family member due to drug addiction. I have witnessed parents abandoning their families due to drug addiction. Your solution is to call them names? I agree Democrat and Progressive policies, defunding the police, a corrupt VT justice system, and open borders have helped to bring this chaos and the assault on the innocent, people turn to drugs when they make false decisions about themselves void of the knowledge of God’s love for them. PRAY they be restored to wholeness by recognizing themselves as imagers of God, repent, and changing their ways. BIND the spirits of addiction, the spirits of fear, rejection, abandonment, abuse – many of the things that Jesus suffered – and CAST THEM OUT!!! Pray for the victims. Pray for the perpetrator. Cast no stone unless you are sinless yourself. How do we help this woman become a sober member of society so she will no longer victimize others?

    • I comprehend your viewpoint as a Christian. I also comprehend that Jesus entered the Temple – not as a passivist, but with righteous contempt against evil and flipped those tables over and abmonished the merchants and clergy for turning the Temple into a dwelling of sin.

Did Gideon form an army of passivists? Many were removed down to 300 because they didn’t possess the will or skills to fight and that was God’s will.

When the stench of evil permeates the nostrils to the point of snuffing out the breath, the answer is to bring it down, bind it, and return it to the abyss from which it came.

Spiritual warfare isn’t for everyone. For others it is a pre-determined destiny or a call answered. Being placed in a time and place and doing God’s work is being a member of God’s army. I am proud to serve Him in anyway He sees fit for me. No Fear!

      >>>”…when I look at the photo of the perpetrator, my heart aches. This young woman appears to be ravished by drug addiction.”<<<

So what!! Drug addiction can be helped! She CHOOSES not to get the help she needs and instead chooses to inflict pain on others! NO EXCUSES! It is people like you, Cristian or not, that let these people walk do to their circumstances. I have empathy and even sympathy as I AM a recovering addict! I have NEVER hurt ANYONE nor stole from ANY people or businesses nor sold my body…or my soul for that matter!
Excuses, excuses! Sick of it! Other SHOULD NOT pay for THEIR PROBLEMS!
They can get the help or BE "called names"…oooh poor babies words must really hurt. Get over it, THEY made their beds!

    • TJ, I did not say let them walk. Calm down. You clipped my comment without considering the entire context, which is disingenuous. Congratulations on your sobriety. Maybe you can use your energy to help others struggling with sobriety rather than spew angry comments here.

People have the option to direct their constructive comments to the appropriate State’s Attorney on these incidents: in this case, Sarah George in Chittenden County. And if a more suitable candidate runs, vote for them.

Melissa Casey, Jesus’ righteous anger was reserved for merchants and clergy who set up a market in God’s House and hypocritical clergy leading people astray. I don’t know how you can compare Gideon’s story to individual sin. There are plenty of examples of when Jesus was gentle with sinners in their individual sins and guided them to repentance. Love first. On occasion Jesus had strong rebukes for His disciples. That being said, the woman in this particular case needs to be restrained in an environment free from drugs so she can sober up and not attack anyone else, and enter treatment so she can be restored. These would be practical steps that our VT justice system refuses to take. I perceive the name-calling as unnecessary and lacking in compassion and love: a clanging symbol.

    • And we need stiffer penalties for drug dealers: much stiffer.

    • >>>”Maybe you can use your energy to help others struggling with sobriety rather than spew angry comments here.”<<<

Maybe you don't know what I already do. I'll "spew my angry comments" as I too have the 1st ammendment. I think this might still be a free country.🤔 You can act all holier-than-thou, but I'm not buying into this anymore. People need to start paying for their actions.
As I said, enough is enough.
Have a good day, watch your surroundings,
trust no one and stay safe. 👍🏼

  14. I guess she considers herself to be an agent for The Democrats socialist dept. of Redistribution Of Wealth.

  15. The failure is that of the states attorney to prosecute criminals. Time for ccc type camps to put these lost souls to work rebuilding our infrastructure. The labor and fresh air will get them off the streets, they’ll be fed and sheltered, not coddled.

  16. Let me guess. We need to be understanding and compassionate that she is mentally ill. Whatever!
