Fair Haven police arrested Eduardo E. Aviles, 51, on Dec. 31 after locating him on South Park Place and learning he was wanted on a federal arrest warrant, authorities said.

Aviles was taken into custody at about 10:32 a.m. on a warrant issued by U.S. District Court Judge Christina Reiss for violating the terms of his supervised release. Police said the arrest followed a joint investigation with New York State Police into stolen firearms reported taken from a residence in Hampton, New York.

Investigators said Aviles admitted possessing the stolen firearms, which were recovered earlier in December from a local church, and police determined he is federally prohibited from possessing firearms. Aviles was lodged at Marble Valley Correctional Facility, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Home improvement fraud– In a separate case, Vermont State Police cited a Berlin man in connection with an alleged home improvement fraud involving an elderly Plainfield resident. Troopers said 82-year-old Melinda Vieux paid Jesse Reeder, 28, about $9,000 for a home renovation project that was started but never completed, and the money was not refunded. Reeder was issued a citation on Jan. 3 to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Jan. 29 to answer to a charge of home improvement fraud.

Domestic assault arrest – State police also reported a domestic assault arrest in Orange. Troopers said they responded to a report of a family disturbance on Jan. 2 and determined that Jason Wark, 49, assaulted a household member. Wark was taken into custody, transported to the Berlin Barracks, and later lodged at the Northeast Correctional Complex. He was ordered to appear in Orange County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on Jan. 5 and was held on $100 bail. Police do not release the names of victims in domestic assault cases.

Recent DUI arrests:

• Anna L. Sarabia, 29, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, was arrested for suspicion of DUI shortly after 1:15 a.m. Jan. 4 after Vermont State Police stopped her vehicle on U.S. Route 7 in Bennington for a motor vehicle violation; troopers reported indicators of impairment, and Sarabia was processed at the Bennington Police Department, issued a citation, and released to appear Jan. 12 in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division.
• Andre H. Desautels, 67, of Bridport, was arrested for suspicion of DUI late Jan. 3 after state police observed a motor vehicle violation on Court Street near Mary Hogan Drive in Middlebury; troopers reported signs of impairment, processed Desautels at the Middlebury Police Department, and released him with a citation to appear Jan. 12 in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division.
• Jesse Quinn, 20, of Pownal, was arrested for suspicion of DUI following a one-vehicle rollover crash on Middle Pownal Road in Pownal at about 8:25 p.m. Jan. 3; troopers said Quinn showed indicators of impairment, sustained minor injuries, and was released to a sober party with a citation to appear Jan. 26 in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division.
