The households of 36,000 Vermont school children this summer have received $120/month in electronic benefit payments for groceries, the Journal-Opinion reports.
As of September 1, Vermont had already issued $4.3 million in SEBT benefits to nearly 36,000 school-aged children in over 21,000 households since mid-July. These families were identified as eligible benefit recipients because they already receive Medicaid with a qualifying income, 3SquaresVT, or ReachUp benefits.
Households were notified of their eligibility in early July and all benefits were available on their EBT cards by July 31.
The program is new to Vermont this year. Vermont’s Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (SEBT) program online application at summerebt.vermont.gov will close on Sept. 4. The program helps feed eligible school-aged children during the summer vacation months by providing a $120 per child benefit to purchase groceries.
Many families automatically qualify for the federally-funded program. The scope of eligible purchases is the same as USDA ‘food stamps’ or EBTs, including no alcohol, tobacco, or home goods.

When is Economic Services going to start a MASSIVE investigation to all the FRAUD with EBT? Why aren’t they pulling these people’s leases and seeing that they have g/f’s and b/f’s living with them making 26-30 an hour? Yet VT taxpayers are bending over again to pay for Universal Lunches, taxes for education and this BS? I think ES should go back min 2 years and require anyone who is getting any kind of assistance to provide a signed lease from landlords. The ones I know of are driving brand new cars/amazon deliveries every single day in addition to a lot of luxuries the average Vermonter can’t afford. STOP THE WELFARE FRAUD, STOP THE MEDICAID FRAUD.
There is so much fraud in Vermont, so much, it’s considered SOP ( standard operating practices)…….
Think about it, who is going to vote against getting “free” $120 for food? It’s called buying votes.
If we got rid of fraud and misuse of money our taxes would drop by 60%.
Stopping all grant projects would be a good first start.
If we had a picture of Cheetos, Pepsi, Energy Drink and fruit pebbles the picture would be accurate, I guarantee that what is in the photo is NOT what the kids were given to eat. 90% of what is in our grocery stores, our gas stations our convenience stores is absolute garbage, that is what we are feeding ourselves and our children, we don’t know any better, we don’t have any better.
Who would turn down $120 to feed their kids? It’s called buying votes.
Vermont is owned by lobbyists, corporatists, those administrators how just happen to work for the uniparty.
We are being poisoned by the garbage we are being fed. Go into any store, take out the highly processed foods, GMO foods, nasty seed oil containing food and what do you have, perhaps 5% of the store, certainly no more than 15% of the store that is good, safe food to eat.
You can physically see how people are poisoned in this state and malnourished by going into any large body of people, surely it is no different in the schools.
Our medical system is happily making bank on our completely preventable and totally unavoidable chronic disease, they don’t want us healthy, they want our money, and the gladly raised the rates in double digits for three years in a row.
Diabetes, heart problems, cancer, dementia…….we are suffering the same fate as our dogs when given such crappy food to eat. Vermont can do much better, much better.
Neil Johnson is just beginning to peel back the scab.
His narrative on unconstitutional food injustice pales in comparison to the environmental warriors – those enterprising young grant writing sparks posing as environmental justice advocates, sworn to prevent flooding by eliminating carbon fuels.
The voting populous of Vermont is long overdue in demanding that these appointed bureaucrats – like Peter Welch’s wife – be brought to task for engineering excruciating utility rates.
You see people evacuating Vermont because they can’t afford to live here.
You see those coming to Vermont who have incomes of upwards of $200,000 a year and essentially under 40 years old, woke, liberal/progressives, that don’t mind the cost they have to pay to live in such beauty. (see the fields of solar panels)
But watch Mr. Chu as he tries to increase the population to 802,000 ….
Not to worry they are making high rise cubicles for us Vermonters, coming to every town, taking away any form of transportation so we can all own nothing and be happy, being tenants in housing, work and freedom to the New World Order is their recipe for happiness and life fulfillment. Send them all our money and freedoms, they are now our God’s to worship and follow down that very wide path to a warm subtropical climate. They say the first margarita is free, not much news about what happens after that.
Do folks realize that we as taxpayers are paying for all this each year in our school budgets as well! Much of the cost not anticipated in the budgets by the school systems. Many of these families have more than one child, so you can do the math. Lots of waste, many kiddos don’t even eat the lunch food. Surly could go to better causes like veterans and homeless.
