Stone-cold sober driver claims no memory of wrongway I-91 crash

A man accused of driving the wrong way and causing a crash on I-91 in Newbury in August pleaded not guilty to gross negligent operation with injury resulting in Orange County Superior Court on Oct. 9, today’s Journal-Opinion reports.

Tyler Hess, 33, told police he could not recall how he came to be traveling north in the southbound lanes of I-91 on the early afternoon of Aug. 9. His car struck a southbound Subaru operated by a 91-year-old Barnet resident, who sustained serious injuries and spent three weeks after the crash in the hospital.

According to police, Hess, who provided a Pittsfield, New Hampshire address in court documents, showed no signs of impairment and recorded a .000% in an alcohol breath test taken at the hospital.

Hess was operating a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta he told police he purchased a little over one month before the crash.

Berlin cops seek mall bathroom Peeping Tom – The Berlin Police are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying a suspected voyeur at the Berlin Mall Thursday, October 10.

At 4:45 PM, the Berlin Police responded to the Berlin Mall for a report of a male entering the women’s restroom. The male was seen looking under the stalls in the restroom and then leaving. The incident occurred at about 4:10 pm and there was a delay in reporting it to the Police Department.

Who’s in YOUR wallet? A Vergennes woman is facing charges of Identity theft, False pretenses or token, Grand larceny, and Forgery and counterfeiting following reported suspicious activities listed on the victim’s bank statements.

On September 4, the Vermont State Police began an investigation after receiving report of a theft from a Charlotte resident. The victim advised of observing several suspicious transactions from Capital One on her bank statements.

Investigation revealed the transactions were linked to Nichole Nimblett (54) of Vergennes.

On October 09, Nimblett was taken into custody without incident for the aforementioned charges and processed at the Williston Barracks. At the conclusion of processing, Nimblett was issued a citation to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court Wednesday, October 10.

Electric concrete trowel stolen in Danville – On October 9 at about 4:45 PM, Vermont State Police were notified that a theft had occurred on Cormier Road in Danville, involving an electric concrete trowel, 3 buckets, and 125 wall brackets.

The owner of the equipment, Justin Morgan, told Troopers that the items were estimated in value to be approximately $8,750. The theft was believed to have taken place sometime between the dates of September 13-30, 2024.

The Vermont State Police ask that anyone who may have information pertaining to the theft, or who are able to identify the individual in the photo, call the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111.
