WATERBURY, VT – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for all counties of Vermont except Bennington and Windham. Heavy rain Wednesday afternoon and evening could result in flash flooding in areas of greatest impact.

The Weather Service emphasized that this storm will not be like last July’s catastrophic flooding event but will still pose real dangers where flash flooding occurs.

Vermonters and visitors are encouraged to watch the forecast and register for Vermont Alert (www.vtalert.gov) for up-to-date weather forecasts and alerts.

Avoid areas of flooding; if floodwaters approach your location, leave immediately over high ground. Respect all road detours and never walk or drive through floodwaters.

The State Emergency Operations Center will open Wednesday afternoon with appropriate state agency support, and if conditions warrant, more agencies and partners will be added.

Vermont’s urban search and Rescue teams and Vermont National Guard are staging ahead of the storm in areas of likely impact. They will move with the storm to ensure coverage of the hardest-hit areas.

  4. For those who had flooding in your area – did you receive a VT Alert notice? Last year, I received several calls from VT Alert due to flood emergency and boil water notice. This year, none. I notified city officials.
