Sportsmen’s Clubs honor U.S. Marine with hits highest honor

Marine Private Colby Butler receives Award of Excellence from Sen. Terry Williams.

December 30, the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs presented Dorset resident Private Colby Butler, USMC, with its highest honor, the Award of Excellence.

Southern Vermont Vice President, Sen. Terry Williams (R-Rutland), presented the award in a private ceremony attended by University of Vermont Extension 4-H shooting sports leaders and trainers.  Butler, who excels in marksmanship and represented Vermont at 4-H National Shooting Sports competitions in Nebraska, also received a Caspian Arms Utility Tool as a gift from the Federation.

The Vermont Sportsmen’s Federation recognized Colby Butler’s natural leadership skills and personal drive, both on a local and individual basis. Senator Williams, a retired US Army officer, followed up with a military assessment of Butler’s abilities, drive, character, and discipline.  “Colby’s basic training, pressure by drill sergeants, leadership of peers, and distinctive marksmanship were apparent and made him an excellent candidate for further training.”

Private Colby Butler, now stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, is attending U.S. Military Police Training School.  Colby is the son of John and Michelle Butler of Dorset.
