St. Albans Mayor Tim Smith warned at a recent City Council meeting about an organization he says provided bail money to a known repeat offender for petty crimes. The the Vermont Freedom Fund is tied to a national organization funded by Tides, founded by billionaire investor George Soros that has also received funding from Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
“I want to make sure that people are aware of the fact that one of our individuals who has a long record of petty theft and breaking into cars was sent to jail with bail posted at $2,000 and there’s an organization in Vermont called the Vermont Freedom Fund which pays bail to get these individuals out of jail,” said Smith.
He continued, “The individual who was recently released was spotted on cameras once again trying to break into vehicles. But the Vermont Freedom Fund [VFF] we can thank for their bailing folks out and impacting what we are trying to do as a community.”
The comments were made about 50 minutes into the Sept. 14 St. Albans Select Board meeting.
The identity of this individual was not mentioned. According to Neighborhoodscout.com, the city is generally known as a tough crime spot.
“With a crime rate of 47 per one thousand residents, St. Albans has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes,” the site states.
VDC reached out to VFF for a response. If they get back then there will be an update to this story.
Ties to political mega-donors
The VFF webpage states they are “a statewide, volunteer-run bail fund that pays pretrial bail, immigration bonds, as well as other expenses to get community members released from jail.”
It also states, “People do not belong in cages! Let’s build solidarity and compassion!”
The program is associated with the Tides Foundation, a Soros-associated funding source for various liberal causes. VFF’s page references their work with the Community Justice Exchange [CJE]. The CJE site confirms that they take funding from Tides.
The CJE site states, “Community Justice Exchange develops, shares, and experiments with tactical interventions, strategic organizing practices, and innovative organizing tools to end all forms of criminalization, incarceration, surveillance, supervision, and detention.”
It also states, “The National Bail Fund Network was hosted at the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund in its first two years. The Network is currently hosted at the Community Justice Exchange, a project of Tides.”
According to Wikipedia, Tides is a “left-leaning donor-advised fund” worth over $1.4 billion in assets.
“Tides distributes money from anonymous donors to other organizations, which are often politically progressive. An affiliated group, Tides Advocacy, is a ‘massive progressive incubator.’ Tides has received substantial funding from George Soros.”
A Politico report from May 2024 on pro-Palestinian protesters also describes Tides as “seeded by Democratic megadonor George Soros and was previously supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.”
The report adds, “It in turn supports numerous small nonprofits that work for social change.”
Vermont legislature taking action
In recent years Vermont has moved towards the progressive-led reduction of cash bail. However, recent legislative initiatives have reversed that trend and cash bail is seen more often now.
Partners with Migrant Justice
According to the VFF site, they are partners with the local social activist group Migrant Justice.
“Vermont Freedom Fund works alongside Migrant Justice, an organization of Vermont farm workers fighting for food justice and human rights,” it states.

I wonder if these criminals were sent to a Mexican prison would the money boys buy their way to freedom? Just how far does corruption go? Gates is being told to appear in a Netherlands court due to his crooked involvement there with vaccines that have harmed their people, like also that was done in India. He thinks he’s god.

I think the author needs to do some more research regarding the foundations involved. There is much more to this story than Soros, for instance this is funded through the National Bail Fund network which is primarily funded by Facebook Co-Founder Dustin Moskovitz of the open philanthropy project who was also involved with donations to the Fair and Just Prosecution that is tied to Sarah George, and also tied to the Center for Tech and Civic life fund that handed out all of the money in 2020 for “election equipment”, but heavily to battleground states (I wonder why?). This National Bail Fund Network is hosted by Community Justice Exchange which is also funded by the Tides Foundation and the NFL. That’s right if you want to stop this stuff you’ll have to give up Sunday Football. That’s how deeply rooted this problem really is.
Furthermore the Tides Foundation is equally funded by the Ford foundation (yes as in Henry Ford’s family) Soros and Gates. As far as I can tell they have all pushed about 26 – 28 million dollars into this, but they didn’t start it, Drummond Pike did (https://www.influencewatch.org/person/drummond-pike/) with startup money from the Reynolds tobacco family. It is comprised of the Tides Center, Tides Foundation, Tides Network and the Tides Nexus, all of which you have to look through to see how much influence it really has over us, and how many of millions/billions of dollars we are talking about here. It’s the center of progressive money and pushes out 501c3’s like candy to do it’s bidding each with a 1 million dollar startup and a free education on how to run these organizations and help when they need it.

The CITY OF ST. ALBANS has had a crime problem for a long time and we do not need any more scape goats. The building of more goat herder housing is not going to make this any better. Watch all bonding operations.
I’m upset that my comment appears to be moderated out. For the first hour or so it was saying that it was pending moderation, and now after another refresh it’s nowhere to be found. It was well researched (took me a little while to be sure it was accurate), didn’t call anyone out and had links to back up it’s claims (which was why it needed to be moderated). The worst thing it said was that the author should do more research…. Which should be a perfectly fine comment on an article especially if you add more reasearched information to the article.
Admins will need to do better than this if they think I will take my time to comment and have it just blown away with no explanation.

I apologize then, I think this is a tech problem then not a mod problem. First feel free to delete this post and the one above. It was just odd that it told me through multiple refreshes that the post was pending and only I could see it. Then it just disappeared so I assumed (makes an ass out of me not u) it was denied.

TIME FOR ST ALBANS TO SET BAIL AT $1.4 BILLION DOLLARS for the next criminal.
The common denominator is non-profits and NGOs – aka 24/7 laundromats. The elites set up “trust funds” and “foundations” funnel money as “charitable” contributions as tax exempt. Open Societies (Soros), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, etc. No better way to push the agenda than funnel billions into the pockets of installed activists and gaming the tax code.
Political Action Committees do the same thing – Act Blue is committing criminal fraud. Allegedly, the DOJ warns Elon Musk for giving away his money through his PAC. Yet, Bill Gates bequeaths $50 million to Harris and the UK Labour party is sending reinforcements for her campaign? There is no honor among all thieves.
The closer to selection day, the more money erupts from deep pockets like St. Helens. It is all stolen and swindled from the peasant class – those distracted by the bread and circus hucksters and corporate sponsors. The world does run on blackmail and corruption. Vermont is not immune to cartel-style corruption. In fact, it is the only thing keeping the floundering installed regime in power – top to bottom.
Sounds to me like this organization should be charged with conspiracy or even RICO! Tax deductions too boot
