Mary Eberstadt, Christian researcher, speaker and author told the Restoring Our Faith Summit Oct. 10 in South Burlington that catastrophe is resulting from endless social experimenting on the ‘twin pillars’ of faith and family.

“It reminds me of something that a very wise priest, the late father Ari Panula of Washington, remarked toward the end of his life. He said if we ran on the natural order the experiments that we run on ourselves, catastrophe would result,” Eberstadt said. “And catastrophe is resulting.

“I think we seem to think that we can endlessly self-invent the twin pillars beneath which all have recorded history before protected itself – family and faith.

“Into that vacuum, identity groups pose a new substitute answer. They operate as figurative families and communities at a time when actual families and communities are in unprecedented disarray.”

The all-day event featured speakers from Jewish and Christian perspectives on the role of traditional biblical values on American life.
