SNAP recipients to receive 50% of benefits, beginning Nov. 7

After several days of furious activity on the state and federal levels about paying SNAP benefits during the government shut down, Vermonters calling the state food benefits hotline (1-800-479-6151) this morning heard the following:

“The state of Vermont has approved a temporary state-funded benefit for 3 Square recipients in November,” the recorded message said. “The state-funded benefit is equal to 50% of a household’s November 1st 3 Square benefit and will be loaded onto EBT cards or directly deposited into bank accounts on or before November 7th 2025. Existing ebt card balances can continue to be used for eligible purchases.”

After a federal court ruling Friday, President Donald Trump agreed to use a reserve fund to pay SNAP benefits (“Trump says he’ll pay SNAP benefits,” Nov. 1). He asked the courts for guidance about how to distribute the funds and said November benefits might not be available.

Leaving nothing to chance, state officials last week authorized paying SNAP benefits out of a reserve fund through November 1. Legislative leaders said recipients would receive 100% of benefits; however the hotline message promised just 50%.

One recipient contacted by VDC said he typically receives about $298/month. “I’ll probably get just under $150,” he said.

  3. Boy, if SNAP is being cut by 50%, the expensive junk food industry will be protesting. They may have to lay people off and / or reduce prices to a reasonable state for a fried potato. Excuse me, for crying dry tears. Junk is junk no matter how much lipstick you put on it.

  4. Its a great time to help a neighbor. Someone you know. As for me becouse christ calls us to. Not goverment.

    • Helping a neighbor voluntarily is a good thing. The government taking hard earned resources from productive citizens at the point of a gun is NOT a good thing.

    • Agreed. I advocate it for the same reason… Jesus says so; and if not for friends and neighbors, now, I would be in a pickle.
      Praise the Lord for His teachings on what gives humanity hope, and connection with strangers at times of need and crisis. In grace and love.

      I’ve been on both ends. It’s righteous living in action, without being asked and little to no fanfare. Preserving dignity.
      Yes, there’s an opportunity here for all of us. Empty your cupboards and give it to the food bank. Buy a cart of food for a family of 6.
      Seniors are especially vulnerable so them first.

Vermont claimed they were a sanctuary state until Trump started targeting sanctuary states. Vermont promise to help until Trump targeted Vermont for illegals. Vermont has put in more than 20 lawsuits against the Trump administration all which has compromise the safety and well-being of citizens of Vermont and United States. Stop voting Democrat!!!!

  6. Regardless of political affiliation, the dumpster fire lit and set ablaze – thanks and no thanks to imbiciles and reprobates. A true test for Americans to act like real Americans or Christians to be “Christ-like.” The choice is to feed the beast system or help a person sustain, preserve some basic human dignity by offering grace and sustenance if able, if unable – prayers and encouragement don’t cost a thing.

So make this make sense: The party (demonrats) that is responsible for this longest in American history government shutdown is now expecting SNAP recipients to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful?!?! For HALF? Because the politicians (our EMPLOYEES) have DECIDED that illegal aliens deserve that money and NOT natural born citizens! Were YOU consulted on this? By OUR EMPLOYEES???
