A transient woman accused of striking a police officer with a vehicle while fleeing a welfare check in New Hampshire was later captured in Vermont, authorities said.
According to the Journal-Opinion, Christina Garrison, 37, described as a homeless woman with ties to the area, allegedly hit a Haverhill, N.H., police officer Friday evening on Central Street in Woodsville before fleeing the scene. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Haverhill Police Department said the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m., when the driver sped off, striking the officer and crossing into Vermont.
Vermont State Police later located and arrested Garrison in Wells River on a fugitive-from-justice charge. She is scheduled to be arraigned in Orange County Superior Court in Chelsea.
Separately, a Stannard man is facing a long list of charges after allegedly threatening first responders and assaulting law enforcement.
Leonidas Tardif, 63, was taken into custody March 29 after troopers were called to assist EMS at a Tousant Hill Road residence. Police say Tardif made threats about using firearms against responding troopers before their arrival. When officers reached the scene, they secured a victim inside the home and encountered Tardif outside, where he allegedly refused commands and resisted arrest. He now faces charges including domestic assault, interference with access to emergency services, four counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, multiple counts of criminal threatening, impeding an officer, and resisting arrest. Tardif was held without bail and is due in Caledonia County Superior Court.
