Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary at a storage facility on Glover Street in Newport where suspects made off with a valuable mountain bike, rugs, and collectible dolls.
Troopers from the Derby Barracks were alerted to the incident on Friday, May 30, though authorities believe the break-in occurred nearly two weeks earlier—on May 18 around 7:42 a.m. According to police, a man and woman cut the lock on storage unit No. 13 and stole several items belonging to 63-year-old Kevin Brayton of Newport Town.
Among the stolen property was a 2004 Specialized Epic Marathon mountain bike featuring a black frame and red seat, two new rugs, and a collection of American Girl dolls. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the burglary to contact Trooper Nash at the Derby Barracks. No arrests have been made at this time.



Man arrested for drunk driving on lawn mower in Randolph
Just after 8:30 a.m. on May 31, troopers responded to a 911 call about a man operating a gas-powered John Deere riding lawn mower on Rogers Road and Route 66 in Randolph. The driver, 58-year-old Jonathan M. Aiudi, showed signs of alcohol impairment and was subjected to field sobriety exercises.
During the arrest, Aiudi reportedly resisted, prompting a use-of-force intervention. He sustained a minor facial laceration and was treated by White River Valley Ambulance. Aiudi was later released with a criminal citation to appear in Orange County Superior Court.
St. J man arrested after drinking beer at gas pump
On Sunday at around 5 p.m., St. Johnsbury Police responded to a report of an intoxicated man consuming alcohol at the gas pumps at Maplefield’s. Officers arrested 47-year-old David Rath of Kirby for suspected DUI. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Lyndonville PD arrests man on multiple felony warrants
A major arrest took place in Lyndon on May 30 after officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Vail Drive. Inside the basement, police located and arrested George Ellis Phelps, 42, who was wanted on two outstanding felony warrants—one for assault and robbery (no bail), and another involving nine counts of probation violations tied to various charges including counterfeiting, retail theft, criminal threatening, and more.
Also cited at the residence was 40-year-old Jennifer Sheehan of Lyndon, accused of being an accessory and providing false information to police.
Motorcycle crash in Ryegate leaves one critically injured, another arrested for DUI
A Sunday night motorcycle crash in Ryegate sent 20-year-old Michael Sackett of Newbury to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in critical condition. Witnesses reported Sackett was traveling too fast around a corner and lost control, veering into a wooded area.
A companion, 20-year-old Dylon Vance of Ryegate, was later arrested for DUI after police determined he was riding a separate motorcycle while under the influence. Vance was cited to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court.
Senior ladies’ spat in Irasburg leads to assault charge
Troopers responded to a reported fight on May 13 at a residence along Vermont Route 14 in Irasburg. After interviewing 68-year-old Montbleau and 69-year-old Blessed, police determined that Blessed was the aggressor in the physical dispute. He has been cited to appear in Orleans Superior Court.
