Norwich University, the nation’s first private military college and home to Vermont’s only Smithsonian affiliate museum, next month will a nationally significant exhibit from the National Museum of the Marine Corps. Sponsored by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, the collection features powerful works by U.S. Marine combat artists and will be on display at the Sullivan Museum and History Center through early January 2026.

The exhibit’s arrival is timed to honor the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps on November 10, offering visitors a poignant tribute to the service, sacrifice, and artistic legacy of Marines throughout American history.

“We are truly honored to host this extraordinary exhibit at the Sullivan Museum and History Center,” said LtGen John J. Broadmeadow, USMC (Ret), the 25th president of Norwich University. “It is a moving and powerful tribute to service, sacrifice, and artistic legacy. As both a U.S. Marine and a proud Norwich alumnus, I am grateful to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for entrusting Norwich with this privilege.”

The traveling exhibit provides a rare and vivid perspective of military service through the eyes of Marines who have served in combat. Each artwork captures moments of courage, resilience, and reflection, revealing the human experience of warfare in ways that go beyond traditional historical accounts.

The Sullivan Museum and History Center, named in honor of Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan ’59, former U.S. Army Chief of Staff and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is widely recognized for showcasing exhibits that connect the military legacy to broader historical and cultural narratives. As Vermont’s only Smithsonian affiliate, the museum is uniquely positioned to host this nationally recognized display.

A special opening reception will take place during Norwich University’s Homecoming Week on Thursday, September 18, from 5-7 p.m., at the museum. The exhibit is free and open to the public, and Norwich University invites students, alumni, Vermonters, and visitors from across New England to experience this compelling collection.
