SNAP benefits hit EBT accounts in Vermont today

As of today, owners of SNAP EBT cards throughout the state now have access to half of a normal month’s worth of benefits. It is recommended that people use these carefully, as the current shutdown may continue past the 15th.

North Country Hospital presents first BEE Award to Amy Ferland

NEWPORT — North Country Hospital has presented its first BEE Award to Amy Ferland, recognizing her exceptional service to patients and their families.

The BEE Award was established by a group of nurses from Texas who wanted to offer patients the opportunity to nominate healthcare team members alongside the DAISY Award for nurses. Just as the daisy cannot survive without the bee, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other colleagues. Nominations for both BEE and DAISY awards are made by patients, visitors and patient family members.

BEE stands for Being Exceptional Everyday. The award recognizes members of the patient healthcare team who go beyond expectations every day, including LNA staff members and employees from Food and Nutrition, Lab, Radiology and Housekeeping departments.

Ferland’s nomination stated: “I’d like to nominate Amy F. in patient registration in the ER for her exceptional attitude; her niceness, kindness, willing to help and answer questions was remarkable. I’ve never met such an outstanding, knowledgeable, kind person. She is an asset to this department. Thank you Amy for all your help. You’re an amazing gem to NCH.”

Ferland has been with North Country Hospital for four years and has shifted departments. She now serves as a scheduler for North Country Primary Care – Newport. She was presented with the official BEE award, a BEE certificate, flowers and a tray of honey buns.

Nine nominations were received in this first round. The other nominees will receive a BEE pin from their leader.

Healthcare team members can be nominated at the BEE Award Nomination Form on the North Country Hospital website.

A pump organ finds its voice again
The Journal-Opinion reports that Bruce Stevens of 1001 Keys in Wells River recently restored an 800-pound, 135-year-old Mason & Hamlin Liszt Organ from Cape Cod.

During the restoration, Stevens was assisted by Blue Mountain sophomore Josh Thornton, reported The Provincetown Independent.

“For Thornton, restoring organs is a process of trial and error. ‘It always sounds funny when you first fix it,’ he says. ‘You’ll think you got it, but then it’ll sound different from what you expected, and you’ll figure out you did something wrong, so you have to go back and fix it.'”

  2. Thirty six thousand snap benefits given in Vermont today. Help me understand as i thought sixty three thousand people were on this food stamp program. Maybe the other people are on another program???? Comment from Richard Day.

  4. In light of the mental health crisis in our nation, isn’t it timely that wall-to-wall coverage, the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth is framed around the acronym “snap”? How many feel like they are on the verge of snapping and for how long? How many witness people being snappy, snippy or cold toward each other without a clue as to why? All by design and all planned accordingly.

    The more this Theater of the Absurd plays out, since 2020, the more it feels like a coordinated, organized, well financed effort to topple and destroy our nation and us. The irony of a nation that displays “In God, We Trust” on our currency, leadership that pretends to swear to a codified oath to uphold the law “so help me, God,” and a pledge of allegience that closes with “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” It doesn’t appear to be that way at all. So many people are confused, bewildered, stressed out, and fearful. Is leadership, of any stripe or office, to be celebrated, idolized, supported or compensated for driving people into insolvency and insanity?

    What is to come? No one below a certain substantial pay grade knows for sure and that, in and of itself, defines a country that is not under the control of the People, by the People, or under a benevolent God. It signals something nefarious and purely evil has taken place, is taking place, and it is going to take a good number of good people out – and not to lunch – here and across the world. I’m not okay with that at all – you?
